Five amazing NUDL students were selected as Harvard UDL Scholars and got to spend a month of their summer in Cambridge, MA at the Harvard Debate Council Summer Workshop!

We are so proud of these debaters for repping Nashville and Metro Nashville Public Schools! We cannot wait for them to share all they learned with their teams and the league 🍎📝☀️

We are thrilled to welcome Soteria Reid as NUDL’s new Associate Director of Programs & Organizational Development!

A proud NUDL alumna, Soteria first joined our community as a student debater at Hume-Fogg High School. As a student, she helped launch a middle school debate team at Meigs Middle School and developed NUDL’s first free summer debate camp for middle school students.

Now, nearly a decade later, she returns to NUDL in a leadership role. Soteria will work alongside our Executive Director, Starr Rhee, to strengthen our programs, support coaches and students, and help expand access to debate across Nashville.

Debate played a transformative role in Soteria’s life, “Debate taught me how to think critically, speak confidently, and see the world through multiple lenses.” We couldn’t be more excited to welcome her back home to NUDL and to see the impact she will have on the next generation of student leaders! 💙💛

That’s a wrap on the Nashville Summer Debate Institute 2026 ☀️ Thanks to all our amazing students and camp staff for a wonderful week as we learned about debating and advocating for the issues that matter to us!

Thank you to Tennessee Titans Community for supporting the NSDI through a Future Titans of Tennessee Youth Summer Impact Grant, and thank you to all of our Giving Tuesday supporters who helped make our free summer programming accessible to all students!

HFA senior Joseph Mammo shared powerful parting words with our community at this month’s Banquet.

As our student speaker and a National Debater of the Year Finalist, Joseph spoke about the power of debate for cultivating the voices of young people.

Last week, NUDL students DJ, Jasmine, Mousa, and Samuel represented Nashville at the Urban Debate National Championship in Cambridge, MA. After months of hard work and preparation, they competed on a national stage with skill and determination. We could not be more proud of them!

Thank you to and for hosting an incredible tournament and creating such a meaningful experience for our students. And thank you to the amazing coaches and teachers who make debate possible!

We had such a wonderful time celebrating our debaters, graduating seniors, coaches, board members, sponsors, and volunteers! We are so proud of everyone who has put their heart into debate this year and grateful for how much our community has grown.

We can’t wait to see you in the 2026-27 season!
