Legislative Update – Mar 7, Disabled Vet Property Tax Reimbursement – Bill # - HB0436/SB0651

Call to Action!

Reference our FB posts of Feb 26 and Feb 13

TNVET met with the Legislative Veterans Caucus this past Wednesday, Mar 4, to address the property tax reimbursement issues. The Caucus requested a meeting with Gov Lee to properly fund and fix the reimbursement calculations that discriminates against disabled vets based on where they live. Gov Lee’s office has ignored their request.

The basic reimbursement program is financially sinking....this problem also affects those who are non-veteran disabled, low income and elderly who receive benefits from the same program. Gov. Lee provided only enough funding to get through this next year. He has totally ignored the calculation issue. The TNVET frustration of inaction/nonattention to this vital veteran issue is also being felt within the Legislative Caucus.

In consultation with the Caucus, TNVET and legislators will work together take corrective legislative/budgetary action itself on Gov Lee’s budget. Every year, the legislature “tweaks” the governor’s budget to address items of their interest. The legislators of the Veterans Caucus see this issue as something they will have to fix.

This is a call to action! The 50,000 veterans of the TNVET organizations, the 50,000 100% disabled veterans/surviving spouses in the program and the 400+ thousand veterans in Tennessee need to contact their state House and Senate legislators. The time is now to fix this problem.

The Veteran Legislator Caucus members need their fellow legislators to help. Thus, they want us (TNVET and all vets, especially the disabled vets) to contact their state legislators to take action. To aid this effort, TNVET has posted an email on its website for you to use. Copy and paste it into your email program. Add/adjust the email to suit your taste, especially if you are a disabled veteran/spouse. It is vitally important you include your home information to show YOU ARE A CONSTITUENT of the legislators you are addressing. A CONSTITUENT carry much more influence with the legislator than a random citizen. You put them in office....you can remove them.

Go to: https://tnvet.org/legislative-success/2026-constituent-forms-email-ltrs/ to find the email and instructions you need to send to your Tennessee state legislator. This email has been constructed per guidance of Caucus legislators.

Thank you,

TNVET
