Thank you to everyone— guests, sponsors, and performers alike— who made last Thursday’s Hellbender on the River an incredible success! We hope you enjoyed the music, the community, and the chance to chat with Compact staff; your presence, enthusiasm, and support are hugely appreciated.

All the proceeds from Hellbender will benefit new water conservation initiatives the Compact is planning for 2026 and beyond, including depaving, environmental education, and stream restoration projects across the Cumberland River basin. This impactful work couldn’t be achieved without your commitment to water stewardship.

We hope to see you again next year, and for now, please enjoy some of our favorite photos from the event!

This Wednesday: Join the Cumberland River Compact as we blend stewardship and education for a unique, hands-on walk & talk experience along Browns Creek! https://cumberlandrivercompact.org/events/list/

Great environmental stewardship is not just about hard work, but also about making community connections to nature. At this event, you’ll learn how people have shaped the land and water of Browns Creek in and around the Nashville Fairgrounds. You’ll also hear about the ecology of the creek and how green infrastructure at GEODIS Park protects it.

Participants can also expect to enjoy a meet-and-greet with live creek critters from Browns Creek, whose presence is a scientific indicator of stream health!

Can’t make it on Wednesday? Another Browns Creek walk and talk will be hosted on June 9. We’d love to see you at either one!

Last week, the Cumberland River Compact hosted volunteers from Schneider Electric for an impactful shoreline cleanup at Percy Priest Lake! Together, the vols removed a whopping 619 pounds of litter from the shoreline, much of which was broken glass and sharp bottle caps— creating a cleaner and safer environment for people and animals to enjoy.

Percy Priest is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, and boating, but many visitors don’t realize it’s actually part of the Cumberland River— meaning the trash and debris that enters Percy Priest affects the quality of our drinking water and impacts wildlife populations from Nashville all the way to the Mississippi River (and eventually the Gulf). Cleanups like this one have a massive environmental ripple effect, so thanks to everyone involved for their hard work!
