Yesterday, as we shared together in worship, we reflected on the authentic expression of Psalm 13. It is not a promise that we always be happy. Instead, it expresses that, at times, life is hard. And even in the midst of that we are held in love. ❤️

Join us in prayer for people in Kentucky and Tennessee who were impacted by severe flash flooding over the weekend. We pray especially for the families and loved ones of the five people who lost their lives in the floodwaters, and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

In response, UMCOR has awarded a solidarity grant to the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, which will support their immediate relief efforts to those in need, including debris removal, Early Response Team deployment, distribution of relief supplies, and more.

A prayer for a midweek reset.

Join us in prayer for all impacted by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Mindanao region in the southern Philippines today. This was a strong earthquake, causing the deaths of at least 32 people and injuring hundreds. As the death toll continues to rise and as residents assess damage to homes and businesses, we pray especially for those who have lost loved ones and livelihoods.

UMCOR is coordinating with our Disaster Management Office (DMO) staff in the Philippines to provide aid and assistance to those in need. We will provide updates as soon as they are available.

United Methodist leaders and Harper Hill Global are taking swift action to respond to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring Uganda.

“We are collaborating with radio stations in eastern Congo and the North Katanga region to broadcast messages about Ebola prevention,” said the Rev. Neelley Hicks, director of Harper Hill Global. “We are also currently working on a new animation with Firdaus Kharas of Chocolate Moose Media, which is focused on funeral practices, approached from a pastoral perspective that takes into account the grief of those who have lost a loved one.”

It's still Easter. And resurrection still happens.

Just thinking back Rev. Ingrid's Easter sermon, when she noted that Mary Magdelene had the courage to stay present even in the midst of struggle and darkness. There are times like this when we're called to stay present as well, trusting that we'll see some resurrection, too.
