We had the BEST listening session last week. We did it family supper style with our youth who have been shot and their families. It was soooo powerful. We’ve been responding to shootings for years now we needed to sit with families and listen to their experiences and what they needed from us as Gideon’s Army AND the hospital. I didn’t expect it to be so moving. A lot of love and tears and a lot of suggestions too.

We did this in partnership with Dr. Kelsey Gastineau at Vanderbilt Children’s Hsopital. Together we were honored with a Health Equity Innovation Award from the Vanderbilt Office of Health Equity. This award is really supporting us as we work really hard to bridge the critical community-based efforts of Gideon’s Army with the academic expertise of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), where most violence-impacted patients are treated. It was so nice to be able to give oKingdom Café & Grill cards. We had another donor that sponsored the cost of food.

This was such a wonderful night! Can’t wait to share what we learned and work even harder to be better. ♥️

Did you know???? Gideon’s Army is led by youth and families who are primarily impacted by gun violence? Here are some of our youth leaders, Our girls running the world! Changing their communities! Come meet them this afternoon at our community forum. Come and answer the call and meet these beautiful girls who are deeply committed to the work. Can’t make it? Donald J. Trump has been campaigning for four years. Starting the day he lost the election he stated he would run again and the very next day he launched a pretty robust campaign tour. I’m not sure I know anyone who would be as bold. He won the electoral and the popular vote. The Democratic Party had about 100 Days. I honestly though Kamala might win but she had the uphill battle of not being truly liked when she ran for President, of being a woman, and being a woman of color. Then there’s never been another party of Independent to be be able to contend so there’s that.

Honestly I’m not looking forward to a four year extension of Trump’s reality madness. But, more than ever, I think we do have an opportunity to band with orgs across the country, local, state, and National, that focus on policies and laws for justice impacted people and make sure that ALL people with felonies have the same rights and opportunities afforded to our now President elect…. And we all know the sad thing is that the rules are different for people of color, especially black people, and for the economically disadvantaged. Prepare to be gaslighted about the rights of those with felonies at the same time that police are being given more and more federally supported immunity. I see a lot of posts mad about this in particular and, if there’s enough synergy, it could be a huge Movement with many wins….no matter what and no matter who won, these next four years do NOT need to be spent on keyboard wars... Lick our wounds from even watching this election and let’s get to work. It’s also ok to rest…

P.S. Gideon’s Army is hosting a teach-in town hall about peacebuilding. It’s going to be very fun and the kids designed it to really bring us together. It might be an event you didn’t know you needed.

New Update 3-20-2024

Michael was found by efforts of his community and two members in his village. He is safe now. I want to thank you all for caring about him.

I love you all so much. I can’t thank you enough. Your energy and sharing and talking and looking really helped. It made him reach out. It let him know he’s cared about more than he could ever understand!
