The Sunday Assembly is a secular congregation that celebrates life. Our mission: to help everyone find and fulfill their full potential. Our vision: a godless congregation in every town, city and village that wants one. We are here for everyone who wants to:

Live Better. We aim to provide inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people to live the lives they

want to lead and be the people they want to be

Help Often. Assemblies are communities of action building lives of purpose, encouraging us all to help anyone who needs it to support each other

Wonder More. Hearing talks, singing as one, listening to readings and even playing games helps us to connect with each other and the awesome world we live in. Is 100% celebration of life. We are born from nothing and go to nothing. Let’s enjoy it together.
2. Has no doctrine. We have no set texts so we can make use of wisdom from all sources.
3. We don’t do supernatural but we also won’t tell you you’re wrong if you do.
4. Is radically inclusive. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their beliefs – this is a place of love that is open and accepting.
5. Is free to attend, not-for-profit and volunteer run. We ask for donations to cover our costs and support our community work.
6. Has a community mission. Through our Action Heroes (you!), we will be a force for good.
7. Is independent. We do not accept sponsorship or promote outside businesses, organizations or services.
8. Is here to stay. With your involvement, The Sunday Assembly will make the world a better place.
9. We won’t won’t tell you how to live, but will try to help you do it as well as you can.
10. And remember point 1… The Sunday Assembly is a celebration of the one life we know we have. What should you expect from a Sunday Assembly event? Just by being with us you should be energised, vitalised, restored, repaired, refreshed and recharged. No matter what the subject of the Assembly, it will solace worries, provoke kindness and inject a touch of transcendence into the everyday. But life can be tough… It is. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, we have moments of weakness or life just isn’t fair. We want The Sunday Assembly to be a house of love and compassion, where, no matter what your situation, you are welcomed, accepted and loved. Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

We are always down to acSANtuate science and scientific discovery.

Achievement does not require an audience, Very often, advances are made through daily action that is out of sight until an achievement materializes.

The NASA Mars rover Curiosity has been at work roaming the red planet for years. On June 19 and 20, it found the largest area of polygonal ground fractures on Mars to date; the sea of honeycomb-like ground looks like a dried lake bed would on Earth. This massive area is the largest single representation of water existing on Mars, and consequently will be of great interest in studying the conditions that could have supported life on ancient Mars.

Curiosity has been roaming this area of Mars since 2014. That was before TikTok existed. No longer in the public imagination, Curiosity and its team of scientists continue with daily action, making discoveries that further our understanding. These are qualities any of us can practice to get to where we want to be - as Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do.”

Join Sunday Assembly Nashville on August 9 at Riverside Commons on 1211 Riverside Drive to take up activism, the tradition of raising one's voice and advocating for what is just even when government doesn't want to listen. Our speaker will be Taure Brown, Director of the James Lawson Institute at Vanderbilt University.

Our all ages program now begins at 11:00 a.m. Off street parking is plentiful and free. Bring a dish and join us for potluck immediately following assembly.

Join Sunday Assembly Nashville on July 12 at our new location: Riverside Commons on 1211 Riverside Drive, still in East Nashville. We will have a discussion on what our new location will allow us to do for our community and in the wider world. The Unnamed Assembly Band will bring their usual excitement, and we'll enjoy a potluck brunch after Assembly.

Back with something to acSANtuate - repurposing.

Finding a new use for something gives that thing new life, saves on raw materials, and is good for the environment.

On June 23, the largest factory of its kind opened in Canada that will convert old EV batteries into storage batteries used to contain power grid overflow energy.

Many large buildings are being repurposed into different uses instead of sitting to rot and decay. An old Walmart in McAllen, Texas is now a library; an empty big box store in Morehead, Minnesota is now a high school education center; a warehouse in Leyland, England is now a skate park.

And we at Sunday Assembly Nashville are excited to help repurpose an old church - starting in July, we are moving our assemblies to Riverside Commons, a former East Nashville church being converted into an all-use facility. Our first assembly at Riverside Commons will be July 12; watch our Meetup for details.

Our speaker for June is coming from Launch Pad, an organization that provides shelter for displaced youth in Davidson County and is LGBTQ affirming. Launch Pad told us they could use donations of items they provide to those who shelter with them, so we will hold a supply drive during the June assembly.

One of the big needs is packs of ramen noodles and condiments in bottles, particularly hot sauce and ranch dressing.

Other items Launch Pad could use include underwear, sweatpants, t-shirts, warmer packs for hands or feet, and wall blocks for USB-C devices.

A perspective to acSANtuate on June 2, 2026:

On this date in 1941, Lou Gehrig died at age 37 of ALS. Also on this date in 2016, the results of an autopsy revealed that Prince died at 57 of an accidental fentanyl overdose.

More recently, NASCAR driver Kyle Busch (pictured) died at age 41 from severe pneumonia and sepsis.

None of these people were of retirement age. Only Gehrig was not still active.

At Sunday Assembly, we strive to celebrate the one life we know we have. Dying is not limited to the old, and this knowledge can make each day more precious.

Sylvia Plath wrote about the need “to live richly in the present, without letting it be tainted.” Plath implored “Remember, remember, this is now, and now, and now. Live it, feel it, cling to it.”

Join Sunday Assembly Nashville on June 14 at East Park Community Center to look at the need for safeguarding transgender children, who have already made harder decisions on who they are than most of us. Our speaker comes from Launch Pad, an LGBTQ affirming organization providing street-free shelter for displaced Davidson County young adults.

We will also have an important discussion about a potential new venue to hold future assemblies. This is a decision where the community’s participation is encouraged.

Our all ages program begins at 10:30 a.m. Off street parking is plentiful and free. We enjoy a potluck brunch after Assembly.

May 22 is Harvey Milk Day, recognizing the iconic first openly gay person elected to public office in California. He once said “It takes no compromising to give people their rights.”

In a time when acceptance is actively discouraged in many official circles, communities like Sunday Assembly Nashville have become more valuable. We are radically inclusive, predisposed as an historically marginalized population of non-believers. We value people over categories and welcome all who welcome all.

Accepting and creating space for those outside the mainstream affirms dignity, provides connection, and fosters resilience - all through the power of an empathetic community. See what we're up to on Meetup.

We’re being Mothers Day adjacent. Join Sunday Assembly Nashville, not on our usual second Sunday but on May 3 at East Park Community Center to reflect on the uniqueness of how we relate to our mothers, the pureness and the complexities inherent in them and in how we see them. Members of our community will share brief stories and remembrances of our mothers,

IMPORTANT NOTE ON THIS ASSEMBLY: Due to limited facility availability, our all ages program BEGINS EARLY at 10:15 a.m., and there will be NO POTLUCK for this assembly. Off street parking, as always, is plentiful and free.

The Artimus II mission has completed, but this planet is still our home - and Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22.

Earth Day is an environmental movement started in 1970 by Ga***rd Nelson, a senator from Wisconsin and Denis Hayes, a student at Harvard Kennedy School. This year marks the 56th anniversary of Earth Day. Our city commemorates the occasion with Nashville Earth Day on Saturday, April 18 at Centennial Park.

The wonder and awe of nature needs safeguarding so generations to come can also enjoy. Some small practices can make a difference in protecting our habitat, such as supporting our pollinators - bees, birds, butterflies - by utilizing whatever outdoor space we have with feeders and gardens.
