This week’s CTRL Your Story theme: Word Positivity! Students learned how words, media, and influence connect and how to use language to uplift, not limit. Every story starts with the words we choose. 💬✨

October 5th–11th

Some of the stories that shape our hearts and open our minds have been challenged or banned, including beloved children’s books like Hair Love, Brown Girl Dreaming, and A Wrinkle in Time

Take a look at some of these titles that might even be sitting on your bookshelf or in your local library!
Let’s celebrate the freedom to read and the power of diverse stories that help every child feel seen. 💛✨

🎗️ October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor strength, raise awareness, and support families touched by cancer. 💕

Books like "Hair for Mama" by Kelly A. Tinkham and "Jeannie Ann’s Grandma Has Breast Cancer" by Diane Davies help children process big emotions with love and understanding. 📚✨ These stories are powerful tools for social-emotional learning, opening conversations about empathy, family, and resilience.

Let’s use literature to bring comfort, courage, and connection.

📚✨ This Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15 – Oct 15), we’re celebrating Juana Martinez-Neal, a proud Peruvian author and illustrator whose stories uplift culture, family, and identity. 🌎❤️

Her books Alma and How She Got Her Name, La Princesa and the Pea, and Fry Bread invite children to see themselves in the pages while discovering the beauty of diverse traditions.

Let’s honor and read the works of Hispanic authors whose voices continue to inspire the next generation.

✨📚 September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month! This month celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. The celebration begins on September 15 to honor the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua—followed by Mexico on September 16 and Chile on September 18.

We’re highlighting children’s and young adult books by Hispanic authors whose stories reflect pride, joy, and heritage. 🌎❤️
