We’re pleased to welcome The Navin Group to Nashville W**e Auction for The Generous Pour — an intimate evening of w**e, conversation, and fresh perspectives.

On Thursday, October 22, guests will enjoy a guided w**e tasting with a guest sommelier, light appetizers, and a relaxed conversation exploring alternative investments, tax-aware strategies, and opportunities beyond traditional Wall Street investing.

This isn’t a seminar or a workshop. It’s a chance to enjoy great w**e, meet interesting people, and take part in a thoughtful conversation about wealth and what comes next.

The evening will also give guests an opportunity to learn more about the mission and work of Nashville W**e Auction and its commitment to uniting the w**e community in the fight against cancer.

For the third consecutive year, we're pleased to welcome Jonathan Ross and Calvin Webster as moderators for the Somm Showdown!

Jonathan and Calvin both boast successful careers in the world of w**e, loaning that experience to us during each round of the competition.

🍷 Jonathan Ross, Master Sommelier - Originally from New Jersey, Jonathan spent most of his career working in numerous New York restaurants; Capped off by a 5-year post as Head Sommelier at Eleven Madison Park which culminated in the restaurant’s rise to the #1 spot on The World’s 50 Best Restaurant List. In 2017, Ross passed the Master Sommelier exam. After a stint in Australia, he and his wife, Judge Jane Lopas, published How to Drink Australian w**e book in 2023 and won numerous awards. Today, Jonathan serves as W**e Director for the Global Ambassador Hotel in Phoenix, and The Twelve Thirty Club in Nashville where he now resides.

🍷 Calvin Webster, DipWSET - Calvin Webster is a w**e consultant, writer, educator, and Master of W**e candidate based in Nashville, TN. Near the end of a past life as a touring bassist, a canceled fall tour left him in Western Europe amid some of the world’s greatest vineyards. You know the saying, “When life gives you grapes...” More than decade of retail, wholesale, hospitality, and education experience and a WSET Diploma later, Calvin advises w**e businesses on sales and technology, teaches WSET classes, and writes about w**e, all while furiously studying for the Stage 2 Master of W**e exam.

🌟 Somm Showdown Contestant Spotlight 🌟

Jake Smith is a Memphis-based sommelier with 20 years of professional experience.

As a second-generation member of the w**e industry, Jake began his career with a bit of a head start, but his first formal entry into the w**e trade was as a clerk at his family's package store - W**e Market in East Memphis - while he was still completing high school and through his undergraduate studies.

After graduating from Rhodes College, Jake entered the field of w**e wholesale for several years. In 2017, Jake moved to Charleston, SC, and a weekend job at a w**e bar drew Jake into the world of hospitality and ignited his passion for connecting directly with consumers and w**e lovers of all stripes. In 2020, Jake moved back to Memphis and assumed the role of General Manager at 117 Prime in Downtown Memphis and then took over as the General Manager at Catherine & Mary's.

Currently, Jake is the West Tennessee W**e Specialist for Best Brands, Inc. - one of Tennessee's pre-eminent wholesalers of fine w**e. In addition to his years of hands-on work in the w**e trade, Jake has also acquired numerous professional certifications, including the Certified Sommelier (Level II) pin from the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas, and the Level 3 Award in W**es with Distinction from the W**e & Spirits Education Trust.

👨‍🍳 Jake will be paired with Chef Jason La Iacona of Miel Restaurant for the first round of competition. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago, Chef La Iacona has spent over a decade in Nashville refining his leadership and culinary style through work with some of the city’s top restaurant groups. With a focus on sustainable seafood, local farms, and creating healthy kitchen cultures, Chef La Iacona brings a thoughtful approach to every dish.
