The buddy program pairs children with and without a disability to complete a race together as a team, using modifications if necessary. SWIM: Children complete the swim by swimming alongside their buddy, by being pulled in a raft by their buddy or swimming with a noodle or kickboard. BIKE: They complete the bike portion on an adaptive bike or pedaling a standard bike alongside their buddy. RUN: To complete the run portion, children can be pushed in a wheelchair, propel themselves in a wheelchair, utilize a power wheelchair, or jogging stroller. A message from Kelley Newman:

Thank you to the many of you who have reached out to inquire about the Tri My Best Triathlon Series/ Vanderbilt Children’s CHAMPions and whether events will take place in 2026. I would like to share with you that I am no longer with Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and have moved over to a position at Vanderbilt University. At this time/ to my knowledge, there are currently no plans for these programs to be taken over by another individual within the VUMC system to plan events for 2026.

While they may not continue on within VUMC, we recognize these programs and events carry great meaning to our community and the children and families who participate. The leaders of the Tri My Best Series (myself included) are working with a similarly aligned community non-profit to continue offering these events. We are hopeful to still host an event in late summer or early fall of 2026.

We are grateful to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for housing these programs since 2013. They have enriched the lives of many children and families in middle Tennessee and certainly built a wonderful sense of community. We are very hopeful to continue serving this mission moving forward, and hope many of you will continue to be involved.

Your unwavering support and dedication have been the heart of these programs, and as we look to the future, we remain committed to fostering inclusion, empowerment, and friendship through adaptive sports. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our children and families. Thank you for believing in this mission and for being part of this incredible journey.

It has been a privilege to have been a part of your children’s lives throughout this time.

Our first Tri My Best Triathlon was on July 17, 2016. Last weekend we hosted our 12th Tri My Best event! And, it was our first EVER event to have a perfect combination of heat, sun, and TORRENTIAL rain! (We actually kinda loved the rain!)

We hope that you've loved these mornings as much as we have!

We've uploaded 1,000 or so photos from last weekend in three albums. HUGE thanks to our photographers Dawn Israel & Joana Carvalho Riddick for these wonderful images. Enjoy!

Enjoy the rest of your (HOT) summer and thank you all for the support over the last 9 years!
