A nationally recognized resource for student assistance, training and professional consultation, STARS assists students, families and schools with prevention, intervention and treatment services addressing bullying, substance abuse, violence, and social and emotional barriers to success. Founded in 1984, STARS staff operate in schools and community sites throughout Middle Tennessee via STARS Specialists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Youth Overcoming Drug Abuse (YODA) as a licensed alcohol and drug out-patience treatment facility as well as their Kids On The Block puppetry program helping educate kindergarten through sixth grade students about health and social concerns that affect their lives while promoting an understanding and acceptance of all children and adults regardless of their differences.

It looks like showing up in schools. Sitting beside someone on a hard day. Helping a young person find their way forward. Connecting people to treatment, support, and resources. And being there for the moments, big and small, that can change a life.

For more than 40 years, STARS has grown and changed alongside the needs of our community, but the reason we’re here has stayed the same.

We love getting out into our community and making connections!

Recently, our team joined the Hermitage and Central Precincts for Golfing with a Cop, connected with the East Precinct at a community board meeting, and attended the Alcoholics Anonymous Recovery Festival.

These moments give us the chance to build relationships, share resources, and make sure first responders know how STARS can help connect people with treatment and support when they need it.

The more connected we are, the easier it is to help someone find the right support at the right time!

Creating safer, more supportive schools takes giving young people and the adults around them the tools to recognize bullying, respond effectively, build stronger relationships, and create a school culture where everyone feels like they belong.

At STARS, bullying prevention has long been part of our work with schools and communities through youth programs, professional development, and proven training programs.

Because every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

40 years creating, supporting, growing, and transforming STARS!!

Yesterday, we got to celebrate our Co-CEO, Rodger Dinwiddie, and a pretty amazing workiversary.

For four decades, Rodger has given so much of himself to young people and communities across Middle Tennessee. His work has helped change the way we talk about and respond to mental health and substance misuse, expanded access to treatment and support for young people, and helped STARS grow into the organization it is today.

That’s 40 years of showing up, pushing for change, and making sure more young people have somewhere to turn when they need help. And THAT felt like a pretty good reason to get everyone together and celebrate! 🎉

STARS Rising is TONIGHT! ✨

After months of planning, creating, and counting down, we are so excited to finally welcome you to OZ Arts!

Tonight is all about experiencing STARS Rising together. Incredible art, delicious bites, our live and silent auctions, a few surprises we’ve been keeping under wraps, and an evening celebrating the work and people at the heart of STARS.

Can’t be with us tonight? You can still be part of the fun! Our Silent Auction is open virtually and closes at 8 PM. You can browse, bid, and keep an eye on your favorites from wherever you are.
