Say NO to bulldozing homes and businesses along I24. TDOT's "Choice Lanes" public comment phase ends on March 26.

• Tell TDOT to do the ALTERNATIVES ANALYSIS that they're required to do by law.

• Email: [email protected]
• Hotline recording: 615-451-8039
• Mail: I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes Project Tennessee Department of Transportation, William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower, 312 Rosa L Parks Ave., 24th Floor, Nashville, TN 37243-0332

• If more highways fixed traffic, then why is Nashville #1 in the US for Daily Vehicle Miles Travelled (42 miles) with the worst commute in the US, and the most miles of roadway per person?

• "Induced Demand" describes how building more highways just gets us more highway traffic. It breeds more car dependent land use patterns in a feedback loop that's done incredible harm to Nashville. This article breaks it down well: https://www.wired.com/2014/06/wuwt-traffic-induced-demand/

• Living within 100 yards of a highway increases risks of cardiovascular disease, so widening I24 is a hazard to nearby residential air quality. Is there any consideration of these negative health outcomes? https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3907023/

The Boring Co has avoided public engagement, which is why the Feb 19 Metro Council subcommittee meeting was only agreed to after they could get a vote from the Airport Authority - which they got on Feb 18. This is an ongoing pattern of avoiding Nashvillians' concerns and their representatives.

CHYM's flagship transit improvement, Bus Rapid Transit on Murfreesboro Pk, including airport service had been derailed by Boring CO's proposal. This BRT route has been established for over 10 years as the best airport transit solution, from experts and years of stakeholder engagements.

The Tesla Tunnel alignments will destroy any future potential for real subway service, which could otherwise become more viable as Nashville continues to densify over the next 10, 20 years - thru Downtown, Broadway/ West End, the Gulch, Wedgwood Houston and all of the SE Corridor.

Boring Co claims to build 19 miles of tunnel in 1 year, which is unrealistic at best, and reckless at worst.

From ProPublica:

"Clark County and the City of Las Vegas Approved 68 Miles of Tunnels Between 2019 and 2024. In nearly six years, the company has built about 5 miles of tunnels, with even fewer miles in use."

Transit Now Nashville’s Top Ten Rewind:

10 Headline Transit Stories of 2025. Transit Now engaged with all of these issues, as co-organizers, volunteers and advocates.

Starting with number 10, we’re celebrating Year One of Nashville having dedicated funding for transit. Choose How YouM funding brought service expansions to Route 50 Charlotte Pike, Route 55 Murfreesboro Pike, Route 6 Lebanon Pike, Route 52 Nolensville Pike, Route 79 Skyline, and expanded WeGo Link/Access on Demand.

This is just the start, but high standard Bus Rapid Transit and 11 New Transit Centers can't get built fast enough.

#9: TDOT’s Choice Lanes Feedback & Opposition. Expanding highways is not a transportation solution. If more highways fixed traffic, then why does Nashville have the worst commute in the US and also the most miles of roadway per person?
https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/policyinformation/statistics/2023/hm72.cfm

TDOT is still accepting feedback for Choice Lanes, especially any environmental concerns. You can email them at [email protected]

• Expanding highways means that even more people will live within 100 yards of a highway, which causes higher rates of cardiovascular disease in people that live within that distance.
How is TDOT allowed to make this problem worse? https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3907023/

• Did TDOT consider the negative impacts of highway expansions on induced
demand https://www.wired.com/
2014/06/wuwt-traffic-induced-demand/ ?

• Did TDOT complete necessary alternatives analysis to establish that highway expansion is better than transit, bus and/or rail?

With the impending lapse in SNAP benefits tomorrow, we have joined a growing coalition asking WeGo to suspend bus fares as an emergency measure. WeGo is soft launching its free fare program, but it is not designed to enroll eligible riders at-scale. Right now, riders must show up in-person to a few events.

Riders should not have to choose between going to the food bank and going to pick up their Journey Pass at a Metro agency.

We are asking WeGo to call a special meeting of the board and vote on suspending fares until their November 20 meeting. We must ensure transportation is a lifeline right now, not another financial burden. We hope you'll join us.
