This role will coach and develop a talented team, strengthen school and community partnerships, use data to drive impact, and help ensure students have the support they need to stay in school and achieve in life.
💰 Salary: $68,555 –$80,653

Communities In Schools of Tennessee is looking for a Communications Manager to join our Advancement Team and help shape the voice and story of our growing organization.

This is more than a communications role. It’s an opportunity to build and strengthen CISTN’s statewide narrative, develop systems that capture and share the impact happening every day, create compelling written, digital, and video content, and connect diverse audiences to our mission. Working alongside our Advancement Team, this role will also help launch and grow our Monthly Giving Program - building meaningful relationships with supporters who believe in student success.

If you are a creative storyteller, strategic communicator, and relationship builder who is passionate about using communications to inspire engagement and advance a mission, we’d love to meet you.

This week, our Communities In Schools of Tennessee team came together in Nashville for our annual statewide onboarding , and there is nothing quite like having our entire team in one room!

From across Tennessee, our staff gathered to learn, connect, celebrate, and prepare for another year of showing up for students in our communities. We’re excited for what’s ahead and proud to be growing this mission together. 💛

In addition to welcoming five new board members, we are also saying goodbye to another member, Lee Ballew, as his board term concludes.

Lee and his wife Lindsay, as well as his company Capital Alignment Partners, have been generous supporters of over the years. As the inaugural chair of CISTN’s advancement committee, Lee played a pivotal role in securing key partnerships, establishing fundraising events, and creating our advancement structure.

“Lee’s generosity, relationships, and business acumen have been tremendous strengths and we appreciate all he’s leveraged to advance the CIS mission. Please join me in thanking and recognizing Lee as he becomes a board alum,” said CEO Meredith Benton.

Our fifth and final new board member spotlight is Dr. Jerry Woods. Dr. Woods is a lifelong educator, advocate, and servant leader. He has served as teacher, principal, Superintendent of three different school districts; Academic Administrator at University of Tennessee at Martin; and Executive Vice-President at Lane College, Jackson, TN. He currently serves as Center manager for the Northwest TN Head Start and Early Head Start Agency.

Peggy is a nonprofit consultant with more than two decades of experience in founding, operating, and advising education-focused organizations across Illinois and Tennessee. A co-founder of Beacon Place and board leader at Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep in Illinois, she also serves on the Advisory Board of Nashville Scholars Initiative.

Allen is an experienced educator and leader with more than two decades of service spanning the classroom, school administration, state education policy, and national nonprofit leadership. He previously served as Executive Director of the National Rural Education Association (NREA) for eight years, advocating at the national level for rural students and communities.
