đź’™ Honoring Lorenzo. Supporting Black Mothers. Thank You, TSU. đź’™
I want to take a moment to say how deeply appreciative I am of my alma mater, Tennessee State University, for standing boldly in support of Black maternal health — for creating events, programs, and resources that address this ongoing crisis affecting so many Black families.
As many of you know, I lost my son, Lorenzo, in 2022. He was stillborn. The cause of death was unknown — and that kind of loss is one of the hardest to unpack. Losing a baby is devastating, but not knowing why adds a different kind of pain.
And while many of you now see me with my third child, my son Ruben Jr., it doesn’t erase the reality that before him, there was Lorenzo — a fully grown baby boy I delivered and held for just 24 hours. It’s been three years, but there are still days when my body, my mind, and my soul feel like it just happened yesterday.
Even as life moves forward, grief doesn’t disappear — it just changes form. I am forever thankful for my family and friends who check in, love me through it, and keep Lorenzo’s name alive. ❤️
That’s why I’m so grateful to see TSU leading the charge to provide resources, support, and awareness around maternal health and loss. It matters. It truly matters.
If you don’t already, please follow and support — the organization I founded in Lorenzo’s honor.
Our mission is simple:
🕊️ We support bereaved parents and eliminate racial disparities contributing to pregnancy and infant loss.
Your donations help us:
✨ Provide counseling and support groups for grieving parents
✨ Assist with funeral and medical expenses
✨ Create directories, resources, and partnerships to better serve families
Because no one plans to be an angel mom or dad — but when it happens, we’re here to help them navigate the day no parent ever expects.
When you give to Our Birthing Stories, you keep Lorenzo’s legacy alive — and you help other families find light in their darkest hour.
