The Constitution: America’s Greatest Treasure

While most constitutions around the world last an average of only 17 years, the United States Constitution has endured for 239 years and counting.

As America celebrates the 250th Anniversary of our nation’s founding, we are reminded that the Constitution is more than a historical document—it is the framework that has preserved liberty, limited government, protected individual rights, and guided generations of Americans through times of peace, prosperity, challenge, and change.

The Framers understood that freedom requires both principles and structure. Their remarkable work created a system strong enough to endure, yet flexible enough to adapt.

For nearly two and a half centuries, the Constitution has remained the supreme law of the land—making it one of the most successful governing documents in human history.

As we approach Constitution Day and America’s 250th Anniversary, let us recommit ourselves to reading it, knowing it, carrying it, and passing its principles on to the next generation.

“The Constitution — Read It. Know It. Carry It.”

“The Birth of George Washington’s Army”

On June 15, 1775, the delegates of the Second Continental Congress unanimously chose George Washington to command the newly formed Continental Army.

Washington accepted the responsibility not for personal gain, but out of duty to the cause of liberty. He declined a salary, requesting only reimbursement for his expenses.

At that moment, America was not yet an independent nation. The colonies were divided, uncertain, and facing the most powerful military force in the world. Yet Washington’s steady leadership helped unite the colonies and laid the foundation for the victory that would secure our freedom.

As we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, let us remember that great leadership begins with humility, service, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves.

“When we assumed the Soldier, we did not lay aside the Citizen.”
— George Washington

📖 The Constitution would come later, but the character and sacrifice of leaders like Washington made its creation possible.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸FLAG DAY🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Sunday Reflections | June 14, 2026

As we celebrate Flag Day and reflect on the blessings of liberty, we are reminded that America’s story has always been rooted in both faith and freedom.

From the first prayer in Congress to George Washington’s call for “religion and morality” as indispensable supports of political prosperity, our Founders understood that self-government requires virtue, responsibility, and a moral foundation.

The Constitution provides the framework for our freedom, but it is the character of the people that sustains it.

As Americans, we come from many backgrounds and traditions, yet we are united by the timeless principles that have guided our nation for nearly 250 years:

🇺🇸 Faith in something greater than ourselves
🇺🇸 Gratitude for the blessings of liberty
🇺🇸 Responsibility to preserve freedom for future generations
🇺🇸 Commitment to serving our communities and our country

As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, may we renew our commitment to both God and Country, remembering that liberty is not merely inherited—it must be understood, cherished, and preserved.

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.”
— George Washington

Spotlight on the Courage to Declare Independence

On June 13, 1776, the Second Continental Congress was actively preparing for one of the most consequential decisions in American history—the Declaration of Independence. Committees were meeting, debates were underway, and the Founders were weighing the tremendous risks of separating from Great Britain.

The men who would soon sign the Declaration understood that freedom is never free. By putting their names to the cause of liberty, they pledged:

“Our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”

The American experiment in self-government began because ordinary citizens and extraordinary leaders believed that liberty was worth defending.

As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, may we remember that our freedoms were secured by those willing to sacrifice for principles greater than themselves.

Founders Friday | John Dickinson

“The Penman of the Revolution”

Before independence was declared, one Founder helped unite the colonies with the power of his words.

John Dickinson (1732–1808), known as the “Penman of the Revolution,” used his writings to awaken Americans to the dangers of British overreach. His influential Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania helped shape colonial resistance and inspired support for liberty throughout the colonies.

Dickinson believed deeply in freedom, but he also believed that independence should be pursued carefully and thoughtfully. Although he did not sign the Declaration of Independence because he felt the colonies were not yet fully prepared for war, he later served courageously in the Continental Army and became one of the signers of the United States Constitution.

His life reminds us that patriotism can take many forms. The Founders often disagreed on the best path forward, but they remained committed to securing liberty and self-government for future generations.

“Let our government be like that of the solar system. Let the general government be like the sun and the states the planets.”
— John Dickinson

As America celebrates 250 years of independence, we honor John Dickinson’s dedication to principle, thoughtful leadership, and constitutional government.
