The Dan and Margaret Maddox Fund’s mission is to better our community through partnerships that improve the lives of young people and protect the natural environment. For Maddox, strong nonprofit partnerships are built on our shared justice and liberation values and a commitment to learning.

What we learn from grasslands: diversity feeds us 🌾

The many varieties of grass and wildflowers, cross-pollinated by bees and breezes, show us how symbiotic relationships sustain healthy systems. Grassland diversity contributes to soil health, water quality, carbon storage, and wildlife habitat.

The Maddox Fund promotes equity and justice by celebrating diversity, finding joy in cross-pollinated ideas, and advocating for just systems, ecological and otherwise, when they're threatened. We nurture an environment of belonging for all people.

What we learn from trees 🌲

Below ground, tree roots intertwine for strength and survival. When the wind blows, they hold each other fast.

At Maddox, we take our cue from trees, believing we're stronger together, rooted in our shared vision, mission, and values while reaching for our shared piece of the sky. Like trees, our well-being is wrapped up in an inescapable network of mutuality, whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

What we learn from water 🌊

From creeks to rivers, water never moves in a straight line, it bends, adapts, and responds to the terrain around it, always finding a way forward.

At Maddox, we take the same approach. We're a learning organization, always exploring new possibilities in response to our changing community, curious about what lies beyond the next bend and willing to take risks as we chart a new course.

As the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, no one can step in the same river twice, because the river is never the same, and neither are we.
