Even the ocean has uninvited guests this week. 🦈

Our friends at ClickRoof are celebrating Shark Week with footage of a shark who skipped the invitation and landed right in the boat. It's funny because it's a shark. It's less funny when the uninvited guest is a leak over your kitchen table.

Here's what we've learned serving widows across Middle Tennessee: trouble rarely knocks first. A storm takes a little bite out of a roof, nobody sees it, and months later a faithful lady on a fixed income is looking at a ceiling stain she has no way to fix.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled ministry updates to report a fugitive. 🦝

His name is Jimmothy. Our friends at ClickRoof have him on camera casing rooflines all over Middle Tennessee, and frankly we respect the hustle. He knows what we know. An aging roof never fails loudly. It fails quietly, one loose shingle at a time, until somebody is living in your attic or water is coming through your ceiling.

Meet Laura.
When we started Books of John, it was in honor of my dad, a man who spent his life showing up for people, especially the widows in his community. That same spirit is what drives us every time we show up on someone's doorstep with a toolbox and a little time to spare.
Laura's story is one of so many reminders of why this work matters. A safe, well kept home means peace of mind, and for so many of the widows and seniors we serve, that peace of mind is everything.

This 4th of July, we're thinking about what freedom really means. For us, it means knowing that every widow in our community has a safe, secure home to celebrate in. A roof that won't leak. Peace of mind that comes from kindness.
We're grateful for the volunteers and supporters who make our mission possible. The people who show up, work hard, and believe that taking care of our neighbors is what living in community is all about.

A lot of widows we work with have never had anyone come out and really look at their roof. With our touchless inspection process, we can see everything without putting anyone at risk or causing any stress. It's quick, it's thorough, and it gives us what we need to move forward with a plan.
