🀝 When teachers and school district leaders work together, great things happen in our public schools!

A huge congratulations to the Cannon County Education Association leaders and members on signing a brand new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cannon Co. School District! This milestone is a powerful reminder that working together works, thanks to the collaborative framework of PECCA (Professional Educators Collaborative Conferencing Act).

Imagine waking up to the news that $250,000 of your student loan debt has been completely wiped clean. For Oak Ridge High School special education teacher Lisa Weathers, that dream just became reality!

As a second-career educator with two master's degrees, Lisa was paying hundreds of dollars a month on her student loans. But at last year's TEA Summer Leadership Academy, she learned about student loan forgiveness, one of the many benefits of being a TEA member.

On Friday, Lisa learned that her public-service loans were officially forgiven, and she shared this news earlier today during the closing session of the 2026 TEA Summer Leadership Academy.

"Thank you, TEA, NEA, and Savi, for making my dreams come true!" Lisa said.
