REMINDER!

FOCUS GROUP with BridgesWEST set for TOMORROW, June 17th, 11am - 12:30pm at the BridgesWEST office at 2655 Union Ave Ext in Memphis.

In 2023, BridgesDHH entered a collaboration with The Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence to work under a federal grant they had received from the Office on Violence Against Women to improve services for people who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard of hearing who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence. BridgesDHH and the Coalition have created the Tennessee Safety for the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (TSDSV).
This statewide partnership will empower other agencies and counselors through training, technical assistance, model policies, and resources so that the many resources they provide are culturally appropriate and equally accessible to the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities. After three years of planning, we are now beginning a needs assessment, and we need your help.

PLEASE NOTE: This group will not discuss personal domestic or sexual violence experiences. All the questions are about access to services, and all participants will receive a $25 VISA card for your participation.

To register for the focus group, please click on the link in this post and please share this information with friends and family in the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] or [email protected]. Thank you.

Outreach & Empowerment Coordinator Melanie Dowl participated in a panel & forum highlighting the new Precious Cargo program expansion held recently at the Benjamin Hooks Library in Memphis.

Tennessee's "Precious Cargo" program allows drivers with medical conditions, and, as of July 1, 2026, drivers with speech difficulties, to add a confidential note to their vehicle registration to alert law enforcement or medical personnel in the event of a traffic stop or an emergency. This legislation is modeled on the Deaf Driver Safety Database (for deaf and hard of hearing drivers) law that and others introduced and passed in 2018.

To participate in the program, fill out the “Application for Precious Cargo Designation on a Tennessee Registration” form on the Tennessee Department of Revenue's website and take it to your county clerk’s office:
