Clementina came to our program in search of long term employment and just a chance. Well, when a participant decides to take a chance on us, we are going to go hard for that person.
While Clementina could speak some English, our educational coordinator, Alexander Davila came in clutch and was able to translate our class every step of the way to make her feel comfortable and conduct business with her in Spanish. He was able to communicate to Business Development Specialist Amanda Crisp what she was interested in and Amanda was able to communicate to our employment partners about her strengths and request a translator for her interview.
Clementina nailed her job interview and landed a role as a prep cook. She called us and let us know she needed non-slip shoes to start her shift the next day. Alex was there at 8 am to deliver the shoes and as she accepted the box, tears came to her eyes and she was grateful for the support.
As you look at her picture, you will notice a before and after on her feet. She just couldn’t wait to get her work shoes on! Sometimes communication and a pair of work ready shoes is what stands in between someone and long term employment.
Sometimes, for our participants, finding a job can be a miracle. We hope everyone considers fair chance employment as a way to build talent pipelines for years to come, however, when you work with a community based organization for that little extra support - the return on investment is incredible.
