Center for Health Culture and Society

Center for Health Culture and Society CHCS is both a service oriented psychiatric clinic and a global resource center for research and education on how culture and society influence mental health.

As its name implies, the Center for Health, Culture, and Society (CHCS) is much more than just a leading provider of psychiatric and mental health services in Nashville, Tennessee. CHCS was founded in 2002 by Dr. Samuel O. Okpaku, MD/PhD, a Nashville psychiatrist whose journey toward culturally sensitive psychiatry began in his homeland of Nigeria. Dr. Okpaku’s professional aspirations were nurtur

ed in many centers of cultural diversity, including Israel, the United Kingdom, and New York City, as well as Africa. He has served on the faculty at Yale University, served as Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Meharry Medical University, and a Vanderbilt professor of psychiatry. CHCS is committed to patient care, whether it be in the clinic or bedside at a local hospital. Our Nashville staff of specialists includes six licensed therapists and social workers dedicated to individual care, recovery, and enhancing the quality of life for our patients. Clinical services at CHCS include pediatric and adolescent psychiatry and psychology, adult and geriatric psychiatry and psychology, neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, addiction counseling, crisis stabilization, su***de prevention counseling, inpatient attending, medication management, weight loss, a full range of diagnostic assessments, and more. CHCS also provides specialized services to military personnel and veterans, as well as to their family members. CHCS accepts all insurance and our knowledgeable staff can answer all of your billing questions. At CHCS, your wellbeing is top priority.
