It's Zookeeper Day!

In rain and shine, snow to derechos, our keepers are out in all! Our keepers are the most dedicated, passionate, and caring people you'll ever meet. Thank you to everyone for providing the absolute best care to the animals in our charge.

Happy 10-4 everyone!

We're still dreaming about Writers for Rhinos! 🦏

It was an incredible night with such talented musicians and almost sold out crowd! Together we raised over $2,800 for Rhino Conservation!

Thank you again to SJ McDonald Emily Landis McGuire Kasey Tyndall for serenading us all night (we definitely found some new favorite songs). And thank you again to our AAZK members who made it happen!

It's World Cassowary Day!

Cassowary are modern day dinosaurs that we are obsessed with here at Nashville AAZK!

🦖 There are 3 species of Cassowary in the world, with the Double-wattled or Southern Cassowary calling the Nashville Zoo home! These prehistoric birds are found in New Guinea and Australia!

🪽 They're in the Ratite family, which means they're cousins of the ostrich and emu. Luckily for us, they can't fly, but they can run up to 35 mph and jump 7 feet in the air!

🍇 Cassowary are incredibly important for the rainforest, as they are frugivores. They spread seeds through their p**p! Unfortunately, they're having a tough time with habitat loss and human encroachment. You can help Cassowary but choosing sustainably sourced produce!

Appreciate a Cassowary today!

It's World Rhino Day!

🦏 There are 5 rhino species alive today! The White and Black Rhino are found in Africa, while the Javan, Greater One-horned Rhino, and Sumatran Rhino are found in Asia.

🦄 Did you know that rhino horn is made of keratin, which is the same stuff as our fingernails and hair? Some rhinos also have more than one horn, even though we lovingly refer to them as "chubby unicorns"

🦏 Rhinos are facing a tough time in the wild, from poaching to habitat loss and fragmentation. Javan, Sumatran, and Black Rhinos are listed as "Critically Endangered", while the White Rhino is listed as "near threatened" and the Greater One-horned Rhino is "vulnerable"

You can help Rhinos by coming to Writers for Rhinos TOMORROW at 6 PM! Link in bio for details!

Appreciate a Rhino today!
