[ADVISORY] KEEP CALM AND DON’T RENOUNCE YOUR CITIZENSHIP

The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC continues to monitor concerns within the Filipino American community regarding the proposed Senate bill to end dual citizenship in the United States.

As mentioned in our previous advisory (https://tinyurl.com/bds4u9hw), the proposal is currently just a bill and has not become law. Similar proposals have been introduced in the past, but none have materialized. Moreover, the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized the validity of dual citizenship.

The Embassy wishes to reassure the community that there is no change to the current policies on dual citizenship at this time. Filipinos who lost their Philippine citizenship by becoming U.S. naturalized citizens may still apply for dual citizenship through Republic Act No. 9225. Those who were born in the United States to at least one Filipino parent are dual Filipino American citizens at birth and should report their birth to the Philippine Embassy or Consulate.

Please be reminded that dual citizens who voluntarily renounce their Philippine citizenship will no longer be able to reacquire it through R.A. 9225. Voluntary renunciation of Philippine citizenship is an irreversible legal action.

The Embassy urges all Filipino Americans to remain calm and refrain from taking unnecessary actions or circulating unverified information. Should any significant development occur, the Embassy will promptly issue an official notification.

For questions, please contact the Philippine Embassy or your nearest Philippine consulate.

Valentine’s Day is often celebrated as a day of love for couples, but yesterday, February 14, 2026, for the Filipino American Association of Tennessee, Inc., it was a day dedicated to love, service, and our 2026 Queens of Hearts.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the five candidates who generously gave their time and effort to raise funds in support of children in the Philippines, specifically to help provide much-needed school supplies. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of the candidates’ friends, family members, and loved ones whose encouragement, time, and support played a vital role in making this fundraiser a success. Congratulations as well to all of the winners of the 2026 Queen of Hearts Pageant—your dedication and compassion truly made this event special.

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all FAAT officers for stepping up to support and assist “May May” in making this pageant a great success. We also extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Alex Fider, MD, for his generous sponsorship, and to the beautiful Quattro Event Reception for graciously providing the venue for this meaningful cause benefiting children.
Your continued support of FAAT, Inc. truly makes a difference—whether through providing school supplies or offering aid during natural disasters, we are deeply grateful. During this event, awards were proudly presented to Dr. Fider, MD, and Helen of Troy Services in recognition of their outstanding support and sponsorship of FAAT, Inc.

We invite everyone to stay connected with us by visiting our website at filamoftn.org and following our page FAAT, Inc. for upcoming events. If you feel led within your blessed heart to donate, contributions can also be made through our website.
FAAT, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and your support truly helps us continue our mission.

Many blessings from Gilbert Ramirez-President
Filipino American Association of Tennessee, Inc.

Stay safe out there! With the ice covering everything, conditions can get tricky fast. Here are a few quick tips to keep in mind:
• Watch Your Step: Use the "penguin walk"—keep your center of gravity over your front leg and take short, shuffling steps.
• Drive for the Conditions: Increase your following distance significantly. Brake early and gently to avoid sliding.
• Clear the Way: If you’re salting walkways, remember that rock salt loses effectiveness below -9°C (15°F); you might need sand for traction instead.
• Check on Others: A quick text to neighbors or elderly family members goes a long way when it's slippery out.
Keep your hands out of your pockets while walking so you can use them for balance if you slip!
