Raise the Roof Academy

Raise the Roof Academy is a 501c3 non-profit organization that advocates for children and community development one household at a time to the glory of God.

We develop high-quality education centers, provide community health programs, create income generating opportunities, and grow alongside local leaders. This multi-faceted, participatory approach builds local capacities and long-term relationships to create lasting, community-wide advancement, rather than a transactional supply of assistance. Our vision is to see generations of empowered children lead community change and share their passions with the world.

Created by two of our high school students, Paul Ssemakula and Swaibu Katongole, this expressive painting captures a stunning, high-contrast pastoral landscape featuring the majestic Ankole cattle of rural Uganda grazing by a riverbank. This piece represents Raise the Roof Academy’s holistic agricultural programs, celebrating food security and localized community development.

This incredible acrylic painting on canvas was created by one of our Senior Six High School students, Yiga Shafic. He titled it "Tembo of Murchison Falls National Park". Yiga shared with us that the monochromatic painting of Tembo of Murchison Falls National Park utilizes a high-contrast scratchboard or stipple-like etching technique to present a powerful, intimate portrait of Ugandan wildlife. It symbolises the raw, majestic presence of the giants roaming the Ugandan savannas. By removing environmental distractions and utilizing a dramatic light source, this style strips away traditional realistic environments to emphasize the wisdom, age, and individual spirit of the animal.

Through our school clinic and community health initiatives, students, staff, and families have access to care that supports their ability to learn and live healthier lives.

Last year, our health programs provided:
5,000+ prescriptions
83 community healthcare workers
543 patients seen each month on average
2,700 lab tests
35 blood donors
3 clinical staff members

Every number reflects our commitment to caring for the whole community.
