Since the reorganization of the Friends group in 2010, the FOPDL has done many great things to help the library. I salute all the former and current board members who have served before me and alongside me. Countless volunteer hours have gone into fundraising, cleaning, painting, maintaining, and landscaping. The group donated money to the Citizens for Putnam which helped successfully pass (and increase) the library millage in 2016. While not an official FOPDL function, many friends were key players in the millage campaign. The group has also donated money to the library for support of summer reading programs, raised funds for the Alice Keihl fund at the Barry Community Foundation, purchased a rug for the children’s wing, and funded the cost of newly designed library cards. We celebrate the ways we were able to support the library during the organization’s tenure.
It is with great sadness that I inform you that the FOPDL was formally dissolved on July 9, 2019 at a special membership meeting. At this time, the library is blessed with a core group of “friends” who can still be called upon when needed. As per the FOPDL bylaws, all funds held by the organization will be turned over to the Putnam District Library.
