October is Mental Health Awareness Month in Tennessee.

Across our state rural, urban, and everywhere in between Tennesseans are carrying more than ever: rising housing costs, student debt, caregiving responsibilities, transportation barriers, and the stress of one crisis after another.

More than 1.8 million Tennesseans live in rural communities. That’s 26% of our state, often facing the greatest gaps in mental health access.

This month is a reminder:
Every Tennessean deserves care, support, and a path to wellbeing no matter where they live.

Did you know that Black communities across TN experience drastically higher rates of asthma prevalence, emergency room visits, & hospitalizations due to systemic healthcare inequities? When we look at the data across major TN cities, the environmental and socioeconomic disparities become incredibly clear.

Memphis faces a massive crisis, ranking #3 in the ENTIRE NATION for asthma-related Emergency Room visits.

Meanwhile, cities like Knoxville rank significantly lower for overall medical emergencies, despite high seasonal allergy factors.
