A case of blacklisting in Memphis where the city removed a nonprofit news operation from its media advisory list and refused to reinstate its journalists. The city has said the organization does not cover the mayor fairly. Now the Reporters Committee is helping this nonprofit with a First Amendment claim.

Deborah Fisher, executive director of Tennessee Coalition for Open Government, will host a Zoom meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday for journalists to discuss and share information about open government during COVID-19, including a new executive order that allows governing bodies to meet electronically and other issues. Paul McAdoo, a Tennessee-based attorney with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, will join the meeting and also be available to answer questions. Email Deborah if you'd like to attend.

A circuit judge in Bentonville, Ark., sentenced a TV news reporter to 3 days in jail because she made an audio recording in court during a capital murder case. She said she was making the recording for "note-taking" purposes only, not for broadcast. But the judge sentenced her anyway. In another story, her lawyer said she came from another state where taking audio recordings for notes was allowed.
