Joe Major is one of our 2025 Bronze Scholars!

A singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas, Joe blends the energy of ’80s rock, the soul of country, and the heart of uplifting pop into a sound that’s entirely his own. Raised in a home where family singalongs around the piano were the norm, Joe discovered his passion for songwriting in college — channeling the highs and lows of early adulthood into music that resonates. Now based in Nashville, his latest release Into Your Arms Again showcases his talent for heartfelt storytelling and genre-crossing melodies.

We’re thrilled to welcome Joe to this year’s John Cirillo Songwriting Scholarship!

Liam Slater is one of our 2025 Bronze Scholars!

With recent wins at both the Great American Song Contest and the Rocky Mountain Song Contest, Nashville’s best-kept secret is quickly becoming one of its brightest rising stars. Liam’s self-described “Y’all-ternative” sound blends raw country lyricism with the nostalgic grit of ‘90s rock — a style that’s earned him over a million combined streams across cuts like Belles’ “Man Outta Me” and Cody Garrett’s “Hitched.” His award-winning tracks “Hands Up” and “Secondhand Smoke” have brought national recognition, while “Breakin’ Up Down” continues to land him features at the iconic Bluebird Café.

We’re proud to welcome Liam to the 2025 John Cirillo Songwriting Scholarship cohort!

Carrie Sams is one of our 2025 Silver Scholars!

Hailing from Monroe, Georgia, Carrie is a Christian indie singer-songwriter whose stripped-down melodies and faith-driven lyrics capture the beauty of vulnerability. Drawing from scripture, small-town life, and personal reflection, her songs feel like sung journal entries — raw, intimate, and full of quiet grace. Influenced by acoustic worship and indie-folk storytellers, Carrie brings a sound that’s both soul-stirring and sincere.

We’re so excited to welcome her to this year’s John Cirillo Songwriting Scholarship cohort!

Dan Raza is another one of our 2025 Silver Scholars.

Plucked from university to tour with Joan Armatrading and later championed by Neil Young, Dan has quietly built a reputation as one of the UK’s best-kept musical secrets. With three acclaimed albums and praise from legends like Rodney Crowell and Tom Paxton, his music blends folk, Americana, and lyrical pop balladry.

We’re thrilled to welcome Dan to this year’s JCSS cohort!
