The MVAN Monthly was created as a way to inform and update our Nashville community. Each month, we touch on a different policy to highlight how and why things are changing.

Most recently, Venue Definition in City Code.

❓What It Is
Venue Definition in City Code creates a clear legal classification for music venues, enabling tailored policies, funding opportunities, and zoning protections.

📍Where It’s Working
Chicago added “music and performance venue” to its zoning code in 2022, making it easier for venues to access COVID relief and other targeted resources. It also eased burdensome license rules.

🎶Why It Matters To Nashville
Nashville lacks a clear, consistent venue definition in its code. This complicates permitting, limits access to grants, and makes it harder to track venue closures or growth.
