Scouts BSA Troop 78 Nashville Troop 78 was the first girls troop in Middle Tennessee, founded in 2019 in west Nashville.

Last ones from Seabase... we enjoyed the local wildlife and beautiful water, and we also did our part to keep both healthy. To help dolphins and other sealife thrive, we carried out a service project with another troop cleaning up trash from among the mangroves. Between us, we collected 517 lbs of trash.

We were incredibly fortunate this past spring not just to be granted access to a private cave, but also to have as our guide a professor of chemistry at Vanderbilt University (a troop parent!), who normally explores the cave with his research students looking for new bioactive compounds to be synthesized for the creation of the next generation of cancer treatment and other drugs. Our troop carried out their own discovery, with results from the lab reported back the following week, and had great fun along the way, with forests of stalactites and stalagmites, underground creeks and bridges, and tights spots to be explored along the way.

A favorite activity was the Young Eagles day at Smyrna airport, where the scouts earned the aviation merit badge and went flying, with some lucky ones actually taking the controls. We're looking into doing it again soon.
