Our intention is not to go back to the past. That cannot happen. We cannot remain stuck in events of the past either. We work to create in the present time for a better future of our peoples generations down the line. Every generation should do the work to sustain the next seven generations (this is called the Seven Generation Principle by the Iroquois Confederacy). Improvement upon improvement. It is easier said than done but it must be done.

On this 4th of July, 2026, we want to bring awareness to this truth:

Our precolonial communities were originally matrilineal and therefore communal. However, foreign ways (such as the isolated nuclear family) pushed in the colonial and now post-colonial era tore families apart, causing a breakdown in indigenous communities. The bodies of indigenous women were (and still are) used as servants, fetishes, mothers of secret babies and more. Today, the exploitation continues and impacts all women. It is clear that women are wanted as babymaking machines to increase birth rates instead of being viewed as the sacred people, mothers, aunties and grandmothers they originally were and still are. Infants are separated from mothers by severing umbilical cords instead of allowing them to naturally fall away, and placentas are taken from mothers instead of kept and buried as we they were in our traditional cultures. So as soon as a child enters the physical realm, the foreign patriarchal system separates the child from the mother then demonizes women, especially powerful women, by making the main influence the orchestrated dominant culture via school and media. Then, women are told to focus on a career instead of community, resulting in a breakdown of health, family, lack of support and more.
Today, the public remains ignorant of the history of our peoples. Many are still being disconnected from their original cultures. We know from experience if there is no strong healthy continuous cultural influence for children, harmful cycles persist. Returning to our original cultural practices is crucial and a means for survival in these times. When good seeds are planted, they grow and positively impact everyone around which is why we created the American Indian Traditional Healing Center.
So as you celebrate 250 years of the USA, remember the people of the land whose lives were negatively impacted for more than 250 years, but are still here because of our ancestors and our own will to live.

The mind and the spirit are at times in opposition to each other
The mind operates for survival or perceived survival
However, sometimes one must go with the spirit over the mind
because the heart takes the fruit of the spirit and leads us to move accordingly
In such a chaotic time as this, the mind may be telling you to rush into action
When truth is, we actually need to slow down and rest.
Be aware of the outer world but do not get caught nor burdened by the weight of it.
Know that we are in a time of great
Transformation

More often than not, the enslavement of Indigenous peoples of the Americas is rarely spoken of but we were the first peoples to experience slavery on this side of the world. The practice of slavery did not start with the arrival of enslaved people from the continent of Africa nor did it stop there. In fact, it continued and in some cases with Indigenous Americans being enslaved alongside Africans on the same plantations. Beyond plantations, some of our people took enslaved people from Africa into our own communities. And even afterwards, many of our people were pushed into areas alongside the descendants of enslaved African peoples where unions and children were made. Not because we were the same but because we are all brown. In fact, we were only viewed as the same by those outside of our communities.

People must become educated on true indigenous history just as they must change the way they think of Indigenous people. Rarely are the popular stories factual.
