🖤🎶 Representation Matters. Sometimes inspiration begins simply by seeing someone who looks like you doing something you never imagined possible. ❤️🎶

When young Black musicians see themselves represented on concert stages, in orchestras, and throughout the performing arts, the message is powerful:

There is a place for you here. 🎶🎷🎼

Representation can turn curiosity into possibility and possibility into a lifelong passion.

That's why what happens on the stage reaches far beyond the stage.

Why We Play. 🇺🇸🎶

On September 11, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the resilience of a nation that came together in the face of tragedy.

As Black musicians, Nashville African American Wind Symphony also recognize the generations before us who used music to express hope, courage, faith, freedom, and the promise of an America still striving to live up to its highest ideals.

We play to honor those who came before us.
We play to celebrate the freedom to stand proudly in our artistry and our heritage.
We play to create space for the generations coming behind us.
And we play because Black stories are, and have always been, part of the American story. ❤️🖤🇺🇸

Today, we remember. We honor. And through the music, we carry the story forward.

This is why we play. 🎼

Turn up the sound. 🎧 Experience a little of what makes NAAWS special.
