Please help the Martha O'Bryan Center increase reading motivation amongst K-8 students! We want to go big at this year's Celebration of the Olympics Summer Camp [K-4th] and Camp Among Us [5th-8th] by offering amazing prizes for students who read every day. Students will receive "Book Bucks" for time they spend reading. Each week students will be allowed to shop at the "Literacy Lounge" for take-home books, games, and toys. And that's where we need your help! Our state and federal funders don't allow us to buy toys or prizes, so we are asking for donations. Choose something from our Amazon Wish List, and it will be sent directly to the Martha O'Bryan Center! If you prefer to donate money or big items like bikes, video game consoles, etc..., please contact Jenny Graham at [email protected]. We greatly appreciate your help!

The Story of K-8

Martha O'Bryan Center's K-8 Extended Learning program serves vulnerable elementary and middle school students attending Stratford, Maplewood, and McGavock cluster schools. We specifically target youth who are isolated by poverty, without access to expanded educational opportunities, reliable transportation, healthy food, and other basic necessities. We offer comprehensive academic, social-emotional, and enrichment programming that creates a culture of attainment and success in low-income communities. We strive to see 80% of our students meet their growth goal as assessed by the MAP test.

We partner with local schools to host our extended learning program. Each school's program is managed by a site-coordinator who plans the daily activities and creates partnerships with community organizations. Each site is staffed with tutors to provide a 1:10 ratio. A typical day consists of 30 minutes for a healthy snack or hot meal, 30-45 minutes for homework with tutor assistance, one hour for Math or ELA lessons, and one hour for enrichment.
