Martha O'Bryan Center's K-8 Extended Learning program serves vulnerable elementary and middle school students attending Stratford, Maplewood, and McGavock cluster schools. We specifically target youth who are isolated by poverty, without access to expanded educational opportunities, reliable transportation, healthy food, and other basic necessities. We offer comprehensive academic, social-emotional, and enrichment programming that creates a culture of attainment and success in low-income communities. We strive to see 80% of our students meet their growth goal as assessed by the MAP test.
We partner with local schools to host our extended learning program. Each school's program is managed by a site-coordinator who plans the daily activities and creates partnerships with community organizations. Each site is staffed with tutors to provide a 1:10 ratio. A typical day consists of 30 minutes for a healthy snack or hot meal, 30-45 minutes for homework with tutor assistance, one hour for Math or ELA lessons, and one hour for enrichment.
