Our friends at Walmart came through again with a Spark Grant. The Walmart at 7044 Charlotte Pike awarded Entryway Nashville a second Spark Grant in as many quarters. Joan (not her real name)came to the Nashville area late last year from the west coast. She fled to escape a domestic violence situation. The YWCA provided a place for her to live and recommended her to Entryway. She very quickly completed the online leasing training that Entryway provides and then took the three-day in person training offered by the Freeman Webb Company. Then they provided a shadowing opportunity at one of their properties.

Joan’s strong resume, personality, and interviewing skills won over Freeman Webb, and they hired her to serve as the community manager at a property outside of Nashville. This is the first Nashville participant ever hired as a community manager. Joan leads a three-person team at her property despite never having worked in multi-family before.

At a recent Songwriter’s fundraising event, I told Joan’s story and her Regional, who happened to be in attendance, interjected enthusiastically, “She is a rock star.”

Thanks in Nashville goes out to the YWCA for referring such a strong candidate, CORT for supplying furniture, Freeman Webb for providing training and the job offer, and Joan herself. Her attitude, persistence, and strength encourage us all.

What a great event last Thursday night! Our third annual Songwriters Night with entertainment from Paul Sikes and Ryan Larkins was a great success. A generous donor agreed to match the first $10,000 in gifts, and we surpassed that goal with $10,300 in donations. The food from Pie Town Tacos is always good, and everyone had a great time. Ryan Larkins, Johnny Clawson, and Paul Sikes will perform at Entryway Nashville's Third Annual Songwriters Night on April 9, 2026.

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Ryan Larkins caught the music city bug as a pre-teen, starting his songwriting journey at 12-years-old. He began to forge his distinctive baritone sound singing and playing guitar weekly at his home church. Those early performances eventually got him noticed by the Nashville music industry community and soon led to a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. Ryan’s sonic roots in traditional country music coupled with his love for gospel, pop and even R&B has crafted an original, incomparable sound sought after by some of the most talented names in the industry. He’s since written with musical legends like Tony Lane, Tom Douglas, Lee Miller, Craig Wiseman, Tim Nichols, Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip and Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson. Bill earned his first Grammy nominationfor “Someday It’ll All Make Sense,” a duet with Dolly Parton, that Larkins co-wrote. A gifted songwriter, Ryan has also landed cuts by award-winning artists like Tim McGraw and Cody Johnson, landing his first #1 song with “The Painter,” which also earned him his debut ACM nomination for Song of the Year and CMA nomination for Song of the Year. Paul Sikes, Johnny Clawson, and Ryan Larkins will perform at Entryway Nashville's Third Annual Songwriters Night on April 9, 2026. Johnny Clawson is a Nashville-based songwriter and artist from Leesburg, Virginia. Signed to SMACK Songs in 2022, Johnny co-wrote Blake Shelton’s No. 1 single “Texas,” which had a record-breaking radio debut and was named one of the 10 Songs I Wish I’d Written by the Nashville Songwriters Association International — an honor that led him to perform it on the legendary Ryman Auditorium stage. He also co-wrote Ella Langley’s No. 1 hit single “weren’t for the wind,” which landed Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Top 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
