Hello friends! We are struggling to bring in enough money to support the feral cats we pledge to help each month. I’d love to collaborate with someone who has experience raising funds on a shoestring budget. If you have fundraising experience and an hour to meet up, please reach out. Thanks! -Erica

Would you like to learn how to safely trap cats for spay/neuter? Gomez and all his ~30 friends need your help. Their neighborhood in Madison is about to be exploding at the seams with kitties, but we can get them all fixed before the first wave of kitten season. I’m waiting to get the date from PCC: I hope it will be within one month!
Here’s what we need:
🐈‍⬛ people to pick up traps at and bring them to the site
🐈people to set traps, watch them, move trapped cats into cars and drive them to on an upcoming Sunday.
🐈‍⬛ people to keep trapping stragglers the next couple days/evenings.
🐈people to pick up the cats at PCC and return them to their colonies after recovery—then clean the traps and return them to PCC

Never trapped before? No problem. I’m an expert trapper and will guide you every step of the way!

I'm so grateful to announce that the Cat Colony Food Pantry is the recipient of the 2025 Tiny But Mighty Fund's Chico Award! Inspired by her love of one very special dog, Marcia Masulla established the fund and award to "recognize an outstanding individual who contributes to the welfare, brings awareness, assists in the prevention of animal cruelty, and/or raises funds for animals in our community." The award of $1,000 supports 400 Nashville cats and their devoted caretakers!

I was honored to receive this award alongside Margaret Harmon, the person who first showed me that feeding colony cats was an unmet need in Nashville's animal welfare community. Margaret still cares for 20 cats, helps her neighbors manage their colonies and acts as a TNR evangelist in the community. And she has become a dear friend to me. I love you, Margaret!

I couldn't do this work without our donors who support the pantry. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining me in taking action on the belief that colony caretakers deserve our support, respect and admiration.

Special thanks to board member Sarah Sylvester for being my co-conspirator and strategist, to Pet Community Center for providing affordable spay/neuter and vaccines for community cats, and Berry Hill Animal Hospital for going the extra mile for cats, even the extra spicy ones!

And thank you Marcia Masulla for establishing this fund in honor of your beloved Chico. Sometimes it feels like we are barely making a dent: There are so many animals in need, there are so few resources, and the world can be cruel to both animals and people. I am buoyed by this recognition and hopeful for the future. Let's keep feeding cats and helping people, one colony at a time!

My sweet Theo is still lost! Please keep an eye out for him, regardless of where you live in Nashville.

If you see him, TAKE PICTURES 📸 and send to Erica: 615/669/1179

He got out 1/7/26 at Snow Ave and Mayview Dr in Madison, TN. He had been adopted two days prior and his adopter left the window open. Theo previously lived in a colony off Harding Place (close to Nolensville). He may be trying to get back there.

Sightings are not helpful without a picture. I love you, but there are thousands of tuxedo cats living outside and it is not possible to investigate all of them. Please study these images carefully and take pictures. Thank you!o

LOST CAT: Got out 1/7/2026 in Madison, TN at Snow Avenue and Mayview Drive near Amqui Elementary. Contact 6I5-669-II79.

With respect, I am not looking for advice—just possible sightings of Theo!

Please note physical description carefully before contacting, as there are many similar cats in the area. If you can, please take a picture or video and text to me, then put out some food (cat or dog food, canned fish or chicken) to try to entice him to stick around.

He will be shy and scared. Please do not chase him or approach. He is microchipped to Nashville Cat Rescue.

He has no collar. Note his tipped left ear, distinct markings on his front legs, and black spot on his chin. He is posted on all relevant FB groups, Paw Boost and 24PetConnect. I’ve hung signs and distributed 400 flyers. (Doing more tomorrow!) I have trail cams set up with feeding stations. I have physically looked all around the site where he got lost and continue to do so.

He lived outside in a colony (19 miles away) his whole life and had just been adopted (I was his foster), so he may not be displaying typical “lost indoor cat behavior.”

Thanks for helping!

I hope everyone has weathered the storm all right. Now that the sun is coming out, please check for cats. Often, cats tuck into a shed, garage, crawlspace or other outbuilding when they sense that a storm is approaching—and then get trapped inside. Even if you don’t see a cat, crack the door for a bit in case one is hiding. This is a simple way to save a life. Thanks!

Hope everyone is staying warm today! I want to give a gentle reminder that cats need help 365 days a year, not just in the days before winter storms. Cat rescuers and colony caretakers were quite inundated with requests to help healthy adult cats get inside this week, all while we scrambled to prep for the storm ourselves.

The cats at risk of freezing during storms that last a few days are young kittens, sick cats and elderly cats. Healthy adult community cats know how to hunker down and find a dry place. You can provide a shelter for them though! There are masses of prefab shelters and diy instructions online. Get straw (not hay) at Tractor Supply, Davidson Farmers Co-op and some Loews (check online for that). Before asking someone for help, ask yourself what’s in your power to do yourself.

In a few days, be sure to check in your sheds, garages and crawlspaces. Sometimes a cat will duck inside or beneath before a storm and get closed off!

If you see a feral or stray cat around any time of year, contact to trap and get it fixed! If it’s a “stray” who is friendly, do the same thing! It might not be fixed. Or it might be lost and microchipped, which a vet clinic can help you with too. If you’re really desperate that a friendly cat not be cold for a few days, I’m certain you have a bathroom. But do not bring unsocialized and fearful cats inside unless you have an appointment to get them to a vet clinic! And never leave a trap set in cold weather unless you are monitoring it constantly.

The kitty in his picture is Falkor, my own feral community cat who is inside his heated, insulated shelter. But other of our ferals actually prefer the unheated DIY ones we made from totes.

Yesterday I brought Theo inside at last. I wasn’t planning to—he was in a crawlspace at the apartment complex where he has lived outdoors his whole life. He was crying with cold. Then he let me chase him around the complex for an hour. By the time I got him in my carrier, we were both freezing!

He was very nervous at first but has settled in and is so loving. Theo is already neutered thanks to , so he’ll be ready for adoption soon via ! I just adore him. 💗

For the past month or so, Surrey has showed potential to adapt to indoor life. She has been jumping into everyone’s cars and not wanting to leave. So we are giving it a shot! She is getting settled with the bestest foster and reports are great so far! Surrey is a beautiful young kitty (approx 2 years old and spayed) with a luxurious gray coat. We think she would prefer to be an only pet in a calm home. Follow her journey with ! 🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶

Theo is ready for an indoor home! He has come so far in the past few weeks. He lives at an apartment complex where the feeder got evicted and management will not allow shelters or covered feeding stations for the winter months. We want to help him find a happily ever after. We’re looking for an indoor-only adoption or foster!

We estimate he is 2-3 years old. Theo is neutered. He needs to be brought up to date on shots. He has not been tested for FIV/FeLV. He has a shallow wound on his back that looks to be healing, but it should be checked out. He gets along with the other kitties. We can help with his vetting! Please reach out if you can help!
