For the past two months we have observed cases in General Sessions and Criminal Court in our effort to place eyes and ears on and in Davidson County Courtrooms. Starting in February, we will be taking things a step further! Wealth based detention begins at Bail Court (or formally recognized as Night Court) so we are now expanding our Court Watch Program to include Bail Court observations. This is a new branch of Court Watch created as a means to tackle the issues of wealth based detention + judicial accountability from the root.

We recognize that the work has to be done but we also want to keep our volunteers safe and protected from COVID 19. This option is a safer option given the limited seating in this specific space.

We hope you join us in our work of ending wealth based detention and pushing judicial accountability and transparency with our Court Watch Program.

You’d think that the court make virtual access accessible and possible to the public. We’ve called, sent letters and sent virtual requests and they’ve all been denied. What are they trying to hide?

This is unsafe and unacceptable!

Our work is more than paying bail. Since we launched our Court Watch program just a month ago, we’ve had almost 20 court watchers observe court hearings & record their experiences. Your donation will help us build our CourtWatch program, which YOU can be a part of!

Another great week of Court Watching! Our court watchers provided us with a Reflection Hearing, notes on each case, and a completed score card rating of the specific Judge.

We equip our watchers with a Nashville Court Watch badge, case specifications and other CWP documents to ensure a safe successful shift.

Access to the courts is a constitutional right. Keeping our eyes and ears on the courts is our right, too. We look forward to more court watch observations and inviting in more of the community to be apart of it.

Next week Court Watch will be limited given the holiday week so we will be present Monday and Tuesday.

Slots are full for Monday, but if you are interested in joining us on Tuesday, send us a dm or email our Court Watch Coordinator at [email protected]...We look forward to having you on board!
