Thank you to WFEA 1370AM and host Jeff Chidester for bringing attention to the important topic of veterans in transition during Military Appreciation Month.

Our CEO, Henry Och, was honored to join NH House Rep. Michael Moffett and Commandant Kimberly MacKay of the NH Veterans Home for this important community conversation. Veterans have given so much in service to our country. As we celebrate Military Appreciation Month this May, Harbor Care is proud to honor their service by standing beside them with the care, connection, and support they need to thrive after service.

“I feel like anything is possible, and I am living proof. I was homeless in May of last year,” she said. “I couldn’t have expected anything like this to happen without the help of Harbor Care.”

The challenges faced by Alycia, a US Navy veteran, have been quite extraordinary. The 37-year-old never imagined that one day she would become homeless, lose custody of her son, battle a severe mental health crisis, and then fight her way back to stability – all within the span of a single year.

MILITARY APPRECIATION: Transitioning to civilian life can bring real challenges—from housing instability to employment barriers to emotional health needs. Harbor Care’s veteran programs focus on the whole person—supporting stability and a path forward.

With the right support, real progress is possible. In 2025:
• 642 veterans and families accessed stable housing, mental health care, and su***de prevention services
• 97 veterans returned to the workforce through employment support
• 96% of individuals placed into permanent housing with services did not return to homelessness
• In Manchester, 89 previously homeless veterans moved into permanent housing—and 67 returned to work
• Harbor Care helped effectively end veteran homelessness in Nashua in 2017
