2026 Lions Day on Capitol Hill Successful!
Lions from around the country gathered in Washington, DC last month as part of our Global Advocacy efforts for Lions Day on Capitol Hill. Led by Chair PIP Doug Alexander, the group visited with Senators and House members from New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Virginia, Michigan, Minnesota, Washington State, Maryland, California and the District of Columbia.
This year, the Lions focused four main issues: Asking members for their support of Alzheimer’s disease awareness, research and caregiving. Reducing the prevalence of diabetes and improving the lives of those living with diabetes. The third issue dealt with improving the lives of those visually impaired and prevent avoidable blindness.
The final asks encouraged lawmakers and their staffs to meet with their local Lions clubs in the home states and districts to see just how much they are doing for their communities. Additionally, clubs will be encouraged to invite members to speak to them and even come to a project and lend a hand.
PIP Alexander and first vice president Mark Lyon were pleased with the response from lawmakers and their staffs. PID Ed Lecius represented MD44 and met with all four members and staffs from our Congressional delegation. In fact, he got a head start, meeting US Senator Jeanne Shaheen at the Manchester-Boston Regional airport. Turns out they were on the same flight into DC.
Lecius shared data with officials from MD44; since 1976, LCIF has awarded more than $422,000 to New Hampshire Lions to help improve our communities. Since June 1, 2025, Lions service impacts on the state showed: 39% Humanitarian assistance, 23% Hunger assistance, 21% went to Vision help, 9% to the Environment, 6% to Youth, and 1% each to Disaster Relief, Diabetes and Childhood Cancer.
Over the last year, Lions have performed over 1,800 service projects, volunteered 41,000+ hours and have served over 500,000 people.
