well, the OH-23 powered up ok. no smoke! lights and radios work. Electrtrim and fuel pumps work! It feels good to see her moving incrementally closer to running.

Now, what to do about that LORAN unit…

This looks like what is now Hanchey Field at Ft Rucker Alabama, where a great many Army Helicopter pilots learned to fly in the venerable OH-23, painted fluorescent orange for easy visibility.

Some History of our Hiller OH-23 Raven

Used in Korea, the A model was a bit difficult for loading and unloading. Later models did away with the sloped windscreen, favoring the "Bubble" canopy similar to the OH-13 Sioux and upgraded stretcher carriers.

Note that the stretcher pods could not accomodate a standard litter...

We had a great bunch of kids come in today from the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire I think they had fun, maybe learned a few things. I know we did!

We recently hosted Senior member and Cadets from our local Civil Air Patrol Unit, the Greater Nashua Composite Squadron of the New Hampshire Wing, for an introduction to the CAF, a hangar tour, some up close and personal warbird time and a good look at how we could work together to achieve our common goals in aviation and the local community.
We had fun, and look forward to our next opportunity to work together!

While we did not get to join in on the CAF Fly Day, we are so much closer to having our lovely PT-23 in the air!

We expect to finish the airframe over the next few weeks, then overhaul the top end of the engine, then ready to fly!
