It's election day!

Hi folks, it is election day, so please make sure to vote! To ensure we have a stronger Nashua it is important to do your civic duty and get out and vote!

As a general rule we like to be non-partisan, however we strongly recommend Board of Public Works candidates: Manny Espitia and Matthew Gregg. Two candidates which espouse Strong Towns ideals.

You can find polling information here: https://www.nashuanh.gov/205/Where-Do-I-Vote

Please make sure to vote! Every vote counts and these elections are usually quite tight.

Nashua needs a Complete Streets policy!

Today we are beginning our push for a Complete Streets Policy in Nashua.

Complete streets are roadways designed and built to accommodate all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, public transit riders, and motorists, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for everyone. These streets prioritize inclusivity, safety, and accessibility, aiming to create a more balanced and equitable transportation system.

Most of our streets in Nashua are not pedestrian friendly, many of them hostile towards pedestrians and cyclists. It is critical we move towards making walking, cycling, and alternative transport safer and more pleasant in Nashua!

Complete Streets ensure that we can we can break the cycle of car dependency in Nashua, a crucial step towards the fight against parking minimums!

It's a common misconception that the US is too large for good transit options. That walkable cities, higher density housing, and high quality transit options like trains or bus rapid transit would never work in the United States because it is too big.

This could not be further from the truth. The United States is quite large, but in general most trips tend to be 3 miles or less: https://www.energy.gov/eere/vehicles/articles/fotw-1230-march-21-2022-more-half-all-daily-trips-were-less-three-miles-2021 even with our current sprawling developments. A perfectly reasonable number to travel by bike for folks who are able to do so.

The US was built on rail as well. In fact Nashua was well connected with Boston many years ago with fast transit to and from Boston: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashua,_Acton_and_Boston_Railroad with even less population than we have now. It is entirely possible for us to do it again!

For a longer form version of this, Not Just Bikes published a great video recently debunking this argument. Here's to getting more walkable cities in the US, and making Nashua a more walkable city!

Nashua Strong Towns official response to Parking Minimums in downtown: https://www.nashuastrongtowns.org/2023/06/07/official-response-to-parking-minimums/

We have worked with a number of members of the community and members of Nashua Strong Towns to try and put together alternatives to parking minimums proposed by the city of Nashua.

Nashua downtown is Nashua's most productive area in the city, and one of its most pleasant areas to be a pedestrian. It is important we do not undo years of work done by the city by making additional space for cars.

We hope the following suggestions are helpful in making a more walkable Nashua!

It's no secret - at Nashua Strong Towns we are against the proposed parking minimums in Nashua downtown.

Recently we were at the Nashua Sustainability Fair to discuss zoning with local Nashuans!

While we don't usually approach walkable cities from an environmental angle, there is an enormous environmental impact to be had by making our cities and towns more walkable.
