Our mission is to protect farmland, water resources, natural areas and open spaces adjacent to and impacting Northwestern Waukesha County

Tall Pines Conservancy (TPC) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax exempt land trust operating in Wisconsin's northwestern Waukesha County and surrounding areas. Tall Pines Conservancy to date has preserved more than 2000 acres through purchased and donated easements. As a non-profit land trust, TPC is able to receive donations of land, easements, and development rights.

It’s Weekly Wrap-Up time!🥭

Pawpaw. That’s all that needs to be said . . . just kidding! There’s a lot to say about this tree.

Known as the Midwest mango, pawpaw’s are native to much of this region. The northern stretches of their range have historically stopped in northern Illinois, but with changes in climate and hardiness zones, pawpaws are proving to be viable in Wisconsin.

To put this fruit to the test, we planted several rows of pawpaw saplings in our agroforestry field. These saplings will take a few years to fully mature and produce fruit - but we decided we couldn’t wait that long! In addition to the saplings, we recently planted more mature pawpaw trees towards the front of the property to show folks mature pawpaw trees and to demonstrate what we envision the agroforestry field to look like in a handful of years.

Help build the next chapter of philanthropy for a growing land trust!

Tall Pines Conservancy is seeking an experienced, relationship-centered Director of Philanthropy to lead and strengthen our fundraising program at an important moment in the organization's history.

We have recently adopted an ambitious strategic plan, have a queue of important conservation projects ready to move forward, and are actively planning a major capital campaign to help make that work possible. This position offers the opportunity to step into an active campaign from the outset while building the relationships, systems, culture, and long-term philanthropic strategy that will support Tall Pines well beyond the current campaign.

We're looking for someone who is a connector, strategic thinker, builder, and collaborator, someone who enjoys listening to people, developing meaningful relationships, turning ideas into action, and connecting donors to the conservation work they care about.

A background in conservation is not required. We are more interested in strong fundraising experience, relationship-building skills, judgment, curiosity, and alignment with Tall Pines' mission.

This is a collaborative leadership role within a small, passionate organization. You won't carry the campaign alone. You'll help organize, guide, strengthen, and contribute to the fundraising work of the broader organization while providing day-to-day leadership for Tall Pines' fundraising program.

The work of conservation doesn't end when land is protected.

At Ravensholme on the River, Tall Pines Conservancy is restoring 13 acres of oak habitat along the Fox River with support from American Bird Conservancy. The work is part of our broader effort to care for the lands we have protected and strengthen the connection between conservation, agriculture, and community.

Restoring oak habitat takes more than removing invasive species or planting trees. It takes ongoing stewardship, thoughtful management, time, and resources. And the benefits extend far beyond the acres being restored.

Healthy oak landscapes provide habitat for birds and other wildlife, protect water quality, support ecological diversity, and create places where people can experience and connect with the land.

Protecting land is one part of conservation. Caring for it, and understanding the communities, human and wildlife alike, that depend on it, is another.

Here’s the first Weekly Wrap-Up of October! 🍂🍁

The Johnson Farm Field Day 2026!

Today’s Weekly Wrap-Up shows some of the highlights from our recent Farmers for Lake Country (FFLC) field day. Every year, FFLC hosts multiple meetings where local farmers gather to discuss their successes and challenges, share ideas, and explore cost-share conservation projects. Field days like the one we just had at the Johnson Farm provide an opportunity to invite the community to see the great conservation efforts being done by FFLC farmers and their impact on local water quality.

At this event, folks learned about cover crops through a property tour and through several demonstration tables while massive drones used for aerial seeding were flying above. A pleasant breeze drifted through the open doors of the historic Norwegian cabin as children made farm-inspired crafts just outside. The evening concluded with a buffet of delicious food as soothing music was being played by a live band.

Thank you to everyone who came out to learn from our FFLC farmers and to everyone who helped make this beautiful day possible!
