Pink Behind The Thin Blue Line

Pink Behind The Thin Blue Line We are a nonprofit officers' support organization located in Texarkana. This includes all departments of Miller and Bowie counties.

Our goal is to help bridge the gap between our officers and the community they protect and serve. We are a non profit organization whose mission is to “give back to the community our officers protect and serve,” while also providing support for our area law enforcement agencies and departments. Our ultimate goal is to help combat the negative stereotypes sometimes associated with officers and thei

r families by giving back to our communities and supporting our officers who daily walk the thin blue line. We have currently raised over $28,000.00 for a law enforcement scholarship at Texarkana College in the name of fallen Officer Jason Sprague. We participate in events during National Police Week each May to thank our local law enforcement officers. We have assisted the Texarkana Arkansas Police Association with their booth at the fair with proceeds going to shop with a cop. Each year we assist the Texarkana Municipal Police Association with a fundraiser for a scholarship. We have also had a festival for officers to bring their families for a safe and fun day of games and prizes. In 2016 year we held Texarkana’s first Thank a Police Officer Day Rally with an estimated 400 people in attendance.

Such a wonderful event! Many thanks to everyone who helped before, during, and after this event. A lot of people put many hours (sometimes days) into this event each year and to see the officers interacting with the youth just fills your heart with joy.

As many are aware, Lt. Scott Lillis was shot in the line of duty on Saturday 8-6-22. He was patrolling Bowie county that night when he stopped a suspected drunk driver. He was unaware that the operator of the vehicle was wanted for murdering a man and shooting a woman earlier that day in Bowie County. As he walked up to the vehicle, he was shot in the face by a .45 caliber handgun. Lt. Lillis was later transported to UAMS in Little Rock where he under went surgery and lost one of his eyes. He has a long hard recovery ahead of him.

We wanted to support Lt. Lillis and his family in some way through this difficult time, so we partnered with D&D Guns and have donated a rifle to be raffled off.

Last night a true nightmare struck our community, when Lt Lillis was shot in the eye by a murder suspect from an earlier homicide in the day. The suspect shot and killed his father in law, and shot his mother in law multiple times before going on a crime rampage that shook communities in Texas and Arkansas for several hours. The suspect car jacked multiple citizens at gun point before coming into contact with Lt. Lillis. Before Lillis could even make contact with the suspect, the suspect fired multiple rounds from the drivers side towards Lt. Lillis who was making a passenger side approach. We believe the suspect came back to the community to kill his wife, who he was unable to kill earlier in the day. If not for Lt. Lillis being observant and willing to make contact, she may not be alive today.

Lt. Lillis was struck in his left eye, and was able to call out for help on the radio, to which Texas DPS responded. The suspect continued to car jack, and the final stolen vehicle was located near Leary, Texas, just outside of Texarkana. This prompted an outpouring of support that I have never seen in all of my years of Policing. Nearly 100 officers from a dozen agencies, the majority of which were off duty at the time, responded to hold perimeter, cover calls for Bowie County and Texarkana area agencies, and to look for the suspect. The suspect ultimately took his own life which ended the manhunt approximately 6 hours after the attempted murder of Lt Lillis.

Lt. Lillis was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Little Rock Arkansas where it was determined that the left eye could not be saved. We are praying that his right eye has a full restoration and that, hopefully, he will one day return to work.

Scott Lillis is a cops cop. He is a Marine Corps veteran who served his country with honor. He is a husband, a father, and a damn good friend. This is a cop anyone would be honored to fight beside, something that I know personally, as I was blessed enough to serve with him.

He is the definition of relentless. How he overcame a .45 cal round to the head, and is up talking and making pirate jokes mere hours after the shooting is by the grace of God alone.
