Update: 2026 Book and Purse Sale

The Friends of the Narragansett Library 2026 Book & Bag Sale benefitting the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, held June 18th and 20th, was a resounding success!! In addition to the fabulous selection of donated books, CDs and DVDs of all types and genres, we were able to offer over 300 new and gently used purses, wallets and bags to our customers. The purse donations came not only from library patrons, but also generous individuals about town and the One More Time consignment shop in Wakefield.

Our dedicated group of Friends’ volunteers entered the empty program room at the library on the morning of Monday, June 15th and managed to quickly organize thousands of materials during the three very busy, yet fun, set-up days.
With the space transformed, the doors to the sale opened on Thursday morning, June 18th to a long line of Friends’ members who were eager to browse the tables and grab their summer reading before the sale opened to the general public in the afternoon.

In total, over the course of two days, we raised over $7,000 to support programming and services of the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, beating all previous book sale records. A heartfelt thanks to the 40 volunteers who gave time to the set-up and sale efforts, and to the many customers (several of whom came numerous times) who helped raise money for this Narragansett treasure.

Many thanks to Martha Shultz and Maureen Barney for their leadership in this wonderful success!
