🚨🐾 AKEMI UPDATE 🐾🚨

First…THANK YOU.

The messages, prayers, shares, and donations have meant more than we can ever put into words.

Yesterday, Akemi was rushed to the emergency vet after becoming violently sick and unable to keep even water down. X-rays revealed what appeared to be a blockage, and there was no time to wait. She was taken into emergency surgery immediately.

The good news…

❤️ Akemi made it through surgery.

The surgeons believe the obstruction was a corn cob that had likely been lodged for quite some time. Thankfully, her intestines look healthy, and with the next 10-14 days of rest and recovery, we are hopeful she’ll be back to her goofy, happy self.

And if you know Akemi, this won’t surprise you one bit…

Even after surgery, she’s still been greeting everyone she meets, soaking up attention from the hospital staff, and making it very clear that wearing the cone is completely unacceptable. That’s our girl.

But while we’re celebrating this huge victory, we’re not out of the woods yet.

Her emergency surgery, hospitalization, medications, and follow-up care have left us with over a $4,000 veterinary bill that we are still working to cover.

At Villalobos Rescue Center, we never get to budget for emergencies like this. When one of our dogs needs lifesaving care, we simply say “yes” and figure out the rest later.

Today, we’re asking our VRC Army to help us do exactly that.

If you’re able to donate, no amount is too small. Every single dollar goes directly toward Akemi’s medical care and helps ensure we can continue saying “yes” when the next emergency walks through our doors.

If donating isn’t possible, sharing this post is one of the biggest ways you can help. The more people who see Akemi’s story, the closer we get to covering this unexpected expense.

Akemi has already overcome abandonment, heartworm disease, and now emergency surgery…and she’s still choosing joy.

🚨💔 WE NEED OUR VRC ARMY… AKEMI NEEDS US RIGHT NOW. 💔🚨

This is one of those moments yet again, that reminds us how quickly everything can change.

Just a little while ago, Akemi’s foster mom rushed her to the emergency vet after realizing something was wrong. The news no one ever wants to hear… Akemi has a blockage.

There is no time to wait. She needs emergency surgery, and she needs it now.

Akemi is only about a year old.
After spending the last couple of months thriving in her foster home, learning what love, safety, and family feel like, this sweet girl is suddenly fighting for her life.

We never get to plan for emergencies like this. We simply say “yes” and do everything we can to save them.

Now, we’re hoping and asking our incredible VRC Army to stand with Akemi.

Tokie may be a senior gal, but she didn’t get the memo that she’s supposed to slow down. This girl still has plenty of pep in her step and is always ready for her next adventure.
