As a member of our Board of Directors, Shannon brings over a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector and currently serves as a Program and Grants Officer in state government. Her background spans grantmaking, administration, program and operations management, workforce development, and national service. We Honor the late Sia Cole, Supervisor at the UMC Training Center

Dedicated Mentor, Teacher, and Friend
Sia will always be remembered for her unwavering dedication to the Betty Carew Women’s Training Center. She took great pride in making a lasting difference in the lives of the girls she mentored and taught.
Her legacy extends far beyond the sewing skills she so patiently passed on—she helped shape confident, capable young women as they found their paths in life. Sia was more than an instructor; she was a source of guidance, strength, and compassion.
Known for her reliability and integrity, Sia remained deeply committed to her work. Her regular updates about the Center kept us connected and inspired. She embraced her role as teacher, guide, and mentor with sincerity and love.

We will miss her dearly, but her impact will live on in every life she touched.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Dr. Emily Zoet is the Director of Corporate Partnerships at the Betty Carew Women’s Development Foundation, where she leads strategic collaborations that help advance the organization’s mission of empowering women. She is also an associate professor of accountancy at Ferris State University and a certified public accountant in Michigan.

Emily holds a doctorate in business administration, with a focus on sustainability in accounting. Her background includes finance roles at Dow Chemical and Ferris State, and she volunteers with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Her dedication, insight, and heart for service make her an invaluable part of our team!
