As week 2 of our summer intensive comes to a close, here are some excerpts from week 1! We were incredibly excited and grateful to have Tom Mattingly in our studios as a guest teacher for the week. Our girls were able to experience ballet, pointe, variations, and contemporary with our guest. Thank you to all of the girls who participated in the first half of the summer, more is to come! 😊

Here it is - our final introduction! We want you to meet our youngest member joining Naples Ballet’s pre professional company for this upcoming season. Congratulations to all of our company dancers and we can’t wait to see you grow and thrive throughout the next year. Thank you for your dedication and for being part of Naples Ballet!

”My name is Hannah, I’m 11 years old and I have been dancing since the age of three. I love to perform and express myself through ballet movements. My favorite ballet - which I hope to dance one day - is Swan Lake, because of the dramatic scenes and all of the beautiful dances in it. In 2018 I attended the summer intensive program at the Ballet School of Vezhnovets in Belarus and will be going back a second time this summer. I’m very passionate about ballet and hope to step out into the professional ballet world one day. I’m excited to be joining Naples Ballet’s pre professional company for the next season and can’t wait to see what lies ahead!”

As our school year is drawing to an end, evaluations are in full swing and we’re getting excited for our summer intensive, starting next week. We’re honored to have Tom Mattingly as our guest teacher for the first week here at the studio and would like to introduce him to you today:

Based in Chicago, Tom is a freelance choreographer, teacher, and performer. Tom began his training in the California desert & attended summer intensives on scholarship with San Francisco Ballet School, Boston Ballet School, American Ballet Theatre, and the Rock School. Upon graduation from Virginia School of the Arts in 2005 Tom was awarded the Dame Margot Fonteyn Award for artistic excellence. He then danced with Richmond Ballet, Chautauqua Ballet, and Cincinnati Ballet before joining Ballet West in 2008. There he tackled many leading roles under the watchful eye of such greats as Cynthia Gregory, Anna Marie Holmes, and Sir Anthony Dowell. Dancing everything from Kylian to Ashton, he quickly rose through the company ranks and by 2013 was promoted to principal dancer. In 2014 Tom relocated to Chicago to join the newly formed contemporary ensemble Visceral Dance Chicago. After 2 years of immersing himself in the Chicago dance scene he was invited to join the first national tour of “An American in Paris”, the four time Tony Award winning musical directed & choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. Now back in Chicago, Tom is focusing on teaching and choreography. To date he has created world premieres for Ballet West, Ballet West II, Ballet West Academy, Dance in the Parks, Richmond Ballet, Utah Arts Festival, Ballet Arkansas, Charlottesville Ballet, Elite Choreographic Initiative, Arova Contemporary Ballet, Beijing Ballet Invitational, World Ballet Competition, and Youth America Grand Prix.

Today, we’re happy to introduce this young dancer to you. Welcome to Naples Ballet’s pre professional company, Maggie:

“My name is Maggie. I’m 12 years old and homeschooled. I have been dancing for 8 years and the last three have been at Naples Academy of Ballet. I love ballet, because it is beautiful when it’s done right. This year, I’m very excited to be able to attend the summer intensive at Ballet Met in Columbus, Ohio. I’m also looking forward to competing at YAGP in 2020. Thanks to Naples Ballet, I feel prepared to take on these challenges!”

We hope, everyone had a great holiday weekend! As we’re going into our last round of introductions on this beautiful Tuesday, we want to continue with a dancer who has been with Naples Ballet since the age of 4:

”My name is Brigette. I’m 12 years old and in 6th grade. I’ve been dancing at NAB for 8 years. This year was the first time I competed in YAGP, which was a very exciting experience for me. The dancer who inspires me most is Maria Khoreva and my favorite ballet is Romeo and Juliet. What I love most about my training at Naples Ballet is, that I’m constantly learning new techniques and that I keep improving. To dance in our ballet productions is one of my absolute favorite things and I hope that one day I’ll be a professional ballet dancer.”
