Many Christians wonder about the future of the church. News stories often focus on declining attendance, changing religious patterns, and uncertainty about what lies ahead. Yet our scriptures for this Sunday offer a different perspective.

When Abraham welcomed three strangers into his tent, he discovered that God was preparing a future far beyond anything he and Sarah could imagine. When Jesus looked upon weary crowds with compassion, he invited ordinary disciples to participate in God's work of healing and hope.

Perhaps the future of the church is not something to fear, but something to welcome.

This Sunday, we'll explore how hospitality, compassion, and trust in God's promises can help us move beyond anxiety and toward hope. Drawing on insights from contemporary writers and theologians, we'll consider why changing times may not signal the end of Christianity, but another chapter in God's ongoing story.

Join us as we reflect on what it means to open our hearts, our lives, and our congregation to the surprising future God is already bringing to life among us.

Blessings,
Scott

What makes someone worthy of a place at God's table?

This Sunday, we will explore stories of faith, grace, and welcome from Genesis 12, Romans 4, and Matthew 9. Abram sets out on a journey sustained only by God's promise. Paul reminds us that righteousness is a gift of grace rather than a reward for achievement. And Jesus shares a meal with tax collectors and sinners, extending mercy where others expected judgment.

Together, these scriptures invite us to consider how God's grace creates a larger table than we often imagine. They challenge our assumptions about who belongs and remind us that faith is less about certainty and more about trusting God's faithfulness.

As we celebrate the Lord's Supper, we will reflect on what it means to receive God's welcome and to extend that same welcome to others. Whether your faith feels strong or fragile, whether you come with gratitude or questions, there is a place for you at Christ's table.

Join us for worship and Communion as we gather around the promise that God's grace always comes first.

Blessings,
Scott

📸 Community in Action! 🙏

At First Presbyterian Church of Naples' recent Deacon Board meeting, we were honored to present a $3,000 donation check to Evelyn Rossetti-Ryan, Executive Director for Our Daily Bread Food Pantry.

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry does incredible work in our community, with 250 dedicated volunteers distributing 2 million pounds of food annually right here in Collier County. We are so grateful for their impactful mission and blessed to support it!

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, which marks the beginning of a long season known as Ordinary Time. Trinity Sunday is a unique holiday in the liturgical calendar because it focuses on a doctrine of the church, rather than an event. Trinity Sunday has been celebrated since the 10th century but wasn’t formally established as the Sunday after Pentecost until the 14th century by Pope John XXII. The Trinity is the very heart of our faith, yet it is also an incomprehensible mystery that words cannot adequately explain.

Our Scripture passage for Sunday is from Matthew’s Gospel. It is a familiar one to us. It holds the last words Jesus speaks in the gospel and is known as the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” Here we clearly see Trinitarian language. It is also particularly appropriate since we will be celebrating two baptisms on Sunday!

All our prayers are based in the threefold nature of God – we pray to God the Father, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. We often attribute specific actions to each person of the Trinity – Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer – but each person of the Trinity is involved in all that God does. I imagine if we think about it long enough, we could come up with lots of questions about the Trinity. Perhaps most pertinent is – what does the Trinity mean for my life and faith today? I look forward to worshipping with you either in-person or online as we explore that question and more while offering our thanks and praise to the triune God together. The sermon title is “Divine Community.”

Peace,
Rex
