Neapolitans, we're doing it again in 2013! The River Park Community-Carver High School Reunion is scheduled for September 20-22 In Naples. The weekend will again include a Meet and Greet on Friday, a luncheon at the River Park Community Center on Saturday, and a Saturday evening social. The weekend will culminate with worship at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday. For a registration form and more information, send an email to [email protected].

RIVER PARK-CARVER REUNION
PROCLAMATION PRESENTED TODAY
Orsie Anthony Sr., Naples’ first Black firefighter, and Johnny “Snowball’’ Cannon, entrepreneur and former local NAACP president, accepted a proclamation from the City of Naples on Wednesday, Oct. 17, declaring Oct. 19-21 River Park Community-Carver High School Reunion Weekend. The proclamation was presented to Anthony and Cannon, reunion committee members, by Naples Mayor John F. Sorey III at the City Council meeting on Wednesday morning.

Did You Know? Mrs. Richardeen Jones initially retired from the River Park Recreation Center in Naples on Sept. 7, 1978, after 15 years of service as director. She later returned and worked until 1982. Mrs. Jones, who now lives in Orlando, will be honored this weekend at the River Park Community-Carver High School Reunion. Other directors of the "Rec'' included Theodore Grattic, George Williams Jr. and James Whitaker.

Did You Know? Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church started in the Ditch Bank, an all-black settlement in Naples. It was organized by Rev. Mack Duffy in 1929. Rev. J.M. Mobley was the pastor when the current building was erected in 1953 in River Park. The church was renovated by Rev. Warren Adkins in 1975. The River Park Community-Carver High School Reunion Committee will pay tribute to the late Rev. Adkins and others at noon on Saturday at the River Park Community Center.

River Park current and past residents, Carver students and friends! We're getting close to the reunion! There's still time to register for just $25 for the entire weekend, which includes food and drinks for the Friday Meet and Greet and Saturday luncheon. River Park legends - Willlie "Sherman'' Anthony, Alma and Herb Cambridge, Mary Gillings Leon and Mrs. Willie Solomon Brown - will be honored at the luncheon. It will include a tribute to Rev.
