This Memorial Day, we honor those who served.

Our exhibition Meaning in Memory: Art of Remembrance features works by Veteran artist Larry Lathrop. Inspired by the Veteran Art Movement's "Making Meaning" concept, these pieces explore memory, sacrifice, resilience, camaraderie, loss, and transformation—and how service has shaped who they are.

We’re excited to share a lovely feature about artist Minna Maillakakis!

Minna has been working with local senior centers in Fort Myers on a collaborative bird painting project — bringing people together through creativity, storytelling, and shared creative time.

We love seeing the meaningful work our teaching artists are doing in the community and the impact they’re making through art.

URGENT—WE NEED YOU ONE MORE TIME

Last night, the House released their Offer #2—and they held their numbers. That's the best position we could have hoped for, but we are not in the clear.

Here's what the House put on the table:
Culture Builds Florida: $3,058,968
Cultural and Museum Grants: $23,000,000
Cultural Facilities: $5,089,656
Now we need the Senate to meet them there—and that is far from guaranteed.

Contact the Senate Budget Conference ATD Committee members and your State Senator now. The ask is simple. Be brief, be civil, and use your own words—or the template in our link in bio. Here's the spirit of what to say:

"I just saw the House's Offer #2. I urge you to please meet the House's appropriations for Cultural and Museum Grants, Culture Builds Florida, and Cultural Facilities. Florida invested $36.5M in arts grants in FY24—and those grantees returned $73.9M in state sales tax revenue alone, more than doubling the state's investment. The arts provide a proven return on investment, so please invest in our county and state. Thank you for serving our community."

Many brief, polite emails carry more weight than a few long ones—so please take 2 minutes and send yours right away.

Budget decisions are happening right now. Do not wait.

To everyone who has already written—thank you. Our officials hear you and now we need one more push.

Federal support for the arts and humanities shapes how communities across the country create, gather, and connect — and right now, that support needs our voices.

Grantmakers in the Arts is calling on individuals, organizations, and advocates to sign a petition urging Congress to protect the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as FY 2027 funding decisions take shape.

Responses will be shared directly with Congress and members of the press. This is a meaningful opportunity to communicate — on the record — why these investments matter to communities nationwide.

⏰ The petition closes this Sunday, May 17. Please sign and share with colleagues and partners.

The Florida Senate has released Budget Offer #1, proposing up to 50% cuts to state arts and culture grants.

What’s at stake:
Funding is on the line for key local arts organizations, including Artis—Naples, Gulfshore Playhouse, Marco Island Center for the Arts, Naples Concert Band, and The Naples Players.

The economic reality:
Florida invested $36.5M in arts grants in FY24.
Those grantees generated $73.9M in state sales tax revenue—more than doubling the state’s investment.

Take action now:
The House is currently holding a stronger position to protect this funding, and we need them to stay firm. Please send a brief, polite email to your local representatives with the message:
“Please hold the House position on arts and culture funding.”
