🎒 Something is shifting.

Disney World recently started stocking free period products in park bathrooms, right next to the free toilet paper and soap. πŸ’—

It is a small change with a big message. Period products belong wherever toilet paper is already free.

That idea is showing up in more places every year. Theme parks. Airports. Universities. Workplaces. And in Lee and Collier County, Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL is part of that same movement, offering pads, tampons, and other supplies through 200+ distribution locations, no questions asked.

Every donation, every drive, every conversation helps move period products from the "luxury" list to the "essentials" list, one restroom at a time.

πŸ” Myth Buster #2: Back to School Edition.

Every month we tackle three myths about periods, period poverty, and the people fighting to close the gap. This month, we are looking at the ones that show up hardest in August. πŸ’—

MYTH 1: "Schools already provide free period products." FACT: Only four states in the US currently require public schools to provide free period products for students. Florida is not one of them. In Lee and Collier County, availability depends on individual school nurses, PTA drives, and community partners like Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL.

MYTH 2: "If a student really needs supplies, they can just ask." FACT: Two thirds of teens say stress around period access keeps them from bringing it up, and more than half say they cannot do their best schoolwork without access to products (State of the Period study). Stocked shelves in bathrooms and nurse offices reach students who would never raise their hand.

MYTH 3: "Period poverty is a big-city problem, not a Southwest Florida problem." FACT: Nationally, one in four students struggles to afford period products (Alliance for Period Supplies). Southwest Florida is not the exception. Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL exists because the need showed up here too.

πŸ’΅ $31.

That is the cost of a full school year of pads for one student in Lee and Collier County. Not one month. The whole school year. πŸ’—

$31 is less than a tank of gas. Less than a family dinner out. Less than most streaming subscriptions cost per year.

For a student without access, $31 is the difference between showing up and staying home. Between focus and fear. Between dignity and improvising with whatever is in the bathroom.

Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL turns donations into distribution across 40 partner agencies and 200+ locations. If you have ever wondered whether $31 moves the needle, this is your answer.

The best part of Saturday at the Lipman Family Farms backpack giveaway was watching how many of our partner agencies showed up alongside us. Susan Harris did not distribute period supplies alone. She handed them off to the people who already know the families, already know the neighborhoods, and already have the trust of the community. That is what makes free period supplies accessible in Lee and Collier counties.

Thank you to every partner agency that showed up to serve this weekend. This work only works because you do.

πŸ“… It's that time of the month.

The alarm went off. The lunch is packed. The backpack is by the door. And then, right on cue, your period shows up. πŸ’—

Good news: a tampon tucked in the front pocket saves the morning. Better news: if stocking up feels like one more thing during a stretched back-to-school month, Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL has you covered. Pads, tampons, liners, no questions asked.

Go get through the first week, Lee and Collier County. We will handle the rest.

πŸ“š Essentials, not luxuries.

Schools already treat some things as essentials. Pens are handed out. Lunch trays get filled. Toilet paper is offered in school bathrooms.

Period products are moving in that direction too. Not yet in school bathrooms, but often available at the nurse's office. πŸ’—

⏰ One day.

That is how much time is left before the first bell rings in Lee and Collier County. πŸ’—

Backpacks are packed. Uniforms are ironed. Lunches are prepped. But for students who menstruate, one supply is often still missing.

Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL has been stocking food pantries and partner agencies all summer long, from Cape Coral to Immokalee, so that when tomorrow morning comes, no student has to choose between showing up and being prepared.

If you know a family who could use support, or a school nurse who could use a resource, send them our way.

πŸ“Š Friday Fact.

Federal food assistance (SNAP) covers bread, milk, and eggs. It does not cover pads, tampons, or liners. πŸ’—

In Lee and Collier County, families relying on food assistance to make it through the month still have to find another way to pay for period supplies. That is not a small gap. It is the difference between a household making rent and a household making do.

Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL is one of the places that gap closes. Pads, tampons, liners, no questions asked.
