✊🏾 Today we honor Juneteenth.

Freedom is bigger than a date. It is the freedom to go to school, to work, to walk into a room without shame, and to manage your period without trade-offs. πŸ’— We commit, again, to a SWFL community where dignity is for everyone. 🌴

What we say matters.

The way we react when someone mentions their period teaches everyone in the room how to feel about it. Disgust teaches shame. Kindness teaches normal.

Five things you can stop saying. Five things you can say instead. Save this. Share it. Try one this week.

Because periods are not gross, awkward, or TMI. They're half of human existence. And the people who get them deserve better than a wince.

Period poverty isn't a far-away problem. It lives in our backyard.

In Florida:
β–Έ 642,920 women and girls (ages 12-44) live below the federal poverty line
β–Έ 1 in 7 menstruators live in poverty
β–Έ 1 in 3 low-income women miss work or school because they can't access period supplies
β–Έ 73% of female students in public schools attend Title I schools, the kids most affected when summer cuts off school supply

These aren't strangers. They're our neighbors, our students, our coworkers.

That's why we do what we do. And that's why your support matters.

It's that time of the month. ✨

The girls are out. The wine is poured. The reservation finally came through. And then, of course, your period decides to RSVP too. 🍷

Good news: a tampon in the clutch keeps the night going. Even better news: if stocking up feels like one more thing this month, Alliance for Period Supplies of SWFL has you covered. Pads, tampons, liners, no questions asked.

Go enjoy your night. We will handle the rest. πŸ’—

πŸ“¦ Hosting a period supply drive is easier than you think. We give you the playbook, the flyer, and the pickup. ✨

Whether it is your office, your church, your gym, or your book club, your community can fill a real gap this summer. β˜€οΈ Visit apsofswfl.org (link in bio) to get started. πŸ’—

Three myths we hear every summer. Three facts that need to land.

❌ "Schools cover it." β†’ They do, until June.
❌ "Periods slow down in summer." β†’ They don't.
❌ "Food banks have it." β†’ SNAP and WIC don't cover period supplies. Most pantries don't stock them.

That's where we come in. 1 in 4 women in the U.S. have struggled to afford period supplies, and summer makes the gap wider.

Donate. Host a drive. Or just share this post so someone else learns the truth too.

πŸ‘€ Period poverty is not a faraway problem. It is happening in classrooms, kitchens, and cars across Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties. 🌴

πŸ”” School is out. The need is not.

For many students in Southwest Florida, the school nurse's office is the only place they can quietly access pads and tampons. πŸŽ’ When summer hits, that line of support disappears for nearly three months.

We bridge that gap by stocking pantries, shelters, and community partners across Lee, and Collier counties. 🌴 Visit apsofswfl.org (link in bio) to give or host a drive. πŸ’—

Happy National Say Something Nice Day πŸ’—

Here is ours: periods are normal. Periods are healthy. Periods are not shameful. The more openly we talk about them, the less power stigma has, and the easier it gets for someone to ask for the supplies they need.

✨ And to every donor, volunteer, drive host, and partner working alongside us to end period poverty in Southwest Florida: thank you. You are the nicest thing about this work.

Closing out May with one more reminder of why this work matters.

Onley, mother of 4: "Sometimes I must decide if we will have a meal tonight or if me and my daughters will have our period supplies for the month. We thank whoever provides this to us… It means a lot to us that there are people that still care for others."

No one should have to choose between a meal and a pad. Thank you to everyone who stood with APS in May. June is around the corner β€” let's keep going. πŸ’—
