🎣🇺🇸 THE COUNTDOWN IS ON—ONLY 24 DAYS TO GO! 🇺🇸🎣

The 5th Annual James R. Moore VFW Auxiliary Fishing Tournament is coming to Canandaigua Lake on Saturday, September 19th!

We have been extremely fortunate to have an incredible group of new and returning sponsors step up again this year. Their generous donations allow us to offer cash payouts, fishing tackle and special prizes for our anglers—including separate Youth and Veteran divisions!

The cash payouts continue to grow with every angler who signs up, and we’ll be posting a complete sponsor and prize update soon!

This tournament is about more than catching the biggest fish. All proceeds will benefit Shawn’s Heroes for Life, an all-volunteer nonprofit created in memory of U.S. Army Veteran Shawn J. McMullen. Their mission honors and improves the lives of Veterans and others in need while raising awareness about the importance of organ donation.

The 5th Annual James R. Moore Memorial VFW Post 8726 Auxiliary Fishing Tournament is coming to Canandaigua Lake!

📅 Saturday, September 19, 2026
⏰ Fishing: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
⚖️ Weigh-in: 3:00–4:30 PM
🎟️ Entry fee: $25 per angler

Tournament proceeds will benefit Sean’s Heroes!

REGISTRATION

• Sign up at the James R. Moore Memorial VFW Post 8726, located at 7811 Route 21, Naples, NY 14512.

• Same-day registration will be available at the Woodville Boat Launch before 7:00 AM.

• You can also send us a message for additional registration options.

TOURNAMENT RULES

1. All anglers must be registered before fishing begins at 7:00 AM.
2. Participants must have a valid New York State fishing license when required by law.
3. The Youth Division is open to anglers age 15 and younger. A separate Veteran Division will also be available.
4. Youth and Veteran Division anglers are still eligible to win the regular species divisions.
5. All current NYS DEC fishing and boating laws must be followed.
6. All fish must be caught in Canandaigua Lake by a registered angler during tournament hours.
7. Only Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout are eligible.
8. Fishing begins at 7:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. Fish caught outside those hours are not eligible.
9. All fish must be presented at the James R. Moore Memorial VFW Post 8726 weigh-in station by 4:30 PM. Late entries will not be accepted.
10. Fish will be weighed and measured by tournament officials. Winners will be determined by weight. In the event of a tie, the longer fish will win.
11. Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. Separate prizes will be awarded in the Youth and Veteran divisions.
12. Cash payouts will continue to grow as more anglers register. If no eligible fish is entered in a division, no winner or cash prize will be awarded for that division. The money allocated to that division will instead be added to the tournament proceeds benefiting Sean’s Heroes. Any sponsored merchandise designated for that division will be handled according to the sponsor’s wishes or saved for a future tournament. A complete payout and sponsored-prize update will be posted once our remaining sponsors are finalized.
13. Reasonable adult assistance is allowed for Youth Division anglers, but we encourage the children to give it their best effort!
14. Good sportsmanship, ethical fishing and responsible boat safety are required. Anyone violating NYS DEC regulations or tournament rules may be disqualified.
15. All disputes will be reviewed by the tournament committee, whose decision will be final.
16. The tournament will be held rain or shine. Any changes caused by severe or unsafe weather will be announced on our page.

We’re honored to welcome back Steven Ovens and Turn 5 Media as sponsors of the Youth Division for the 5th Annual James R. Moore VFW Auxiliary Fishing Tournament.

Steven is the voice of Land of Legends Raceway and the man behind Turn 5 Media. This sponsorship is made in loving memory of his father, Stewart “Stu” Ovens, and his brother, Brad Ovens.

Stu was the owner of Creekside Entertainment, and both Stu and Brad left a lasting impact on their family, friends, and the local racing community.

Through this sponsorship, Steven is helping give young anglers the opportunity to get outdoors, compete, and create lasting memories with their families—all while keeping the memory and legacy of his father and brother alive.

Pro-Troll is well known among trolling anglers for its flashers, attractors, trolling lures, bait holders, fishing lights, and innovative EChip technology.

⚡ WHAT IS THE ECHIP?

Every year, our James R. Moore VFW Auxiliary Fishing Tournament is about more than catching fish—it’s about making a real difference.

This year, we’re honored to announce that proceeds from our tournament will benefit Shawn’s Heroes for Life, an incredible all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to honoring Veterans, helping those in need, and raising organ donation awareness.

Founded in memory of U.S. Army Cavalry Scout Shawn J.
